Such a gem! We will definitely be back. Each dish was a treat and the hospitality was amazing. From the moment we walked in we felt welcomed and taken care of. Although there isn’t a full bar the selection of beer and wine is outstanding. We did some à la carte off the tasting menu and it was amazing. Duck, salmon, and steak were amazing and perfectly cooked. Kids loved the deserts!

After an error in reserving another restaurant for NYE, we were scrambling for a spot last minute. After leaving messages and calling all over, Salt of the Earth called back! It was a perfect happenstance, ending up being our best meal in Lake Placid, and a lovely way to end the year. The location is just out of town, and easy drive. The unique decor, friendly and skilled staff, added to the amazing cuisine and drinks.

Had a wonderful experience here for Valentine’s Day. All of the food was exceptional and it was probably one of our best meals at Lake Placid the entire weekend we were there. The portion sizes were more than decent and both my partner and I left full. We also loved the ambiance of the place, there was a lot of interesting decor.

This is an intimate, wonderfully curated place to be. The food is delightful and incredibly thoughtful, without being ostentatious. My wife and I dined with our 7 & 9 year old sons, and we all enjoyed everything. The service was excellent, knowledgeable and attentive, without making us feel rushed, only incredibly cared for and welcome. We order a lot of food, because the menu was irresistible. It all tasted as good as it read. The ingredients were fresh and paired in a palette stimulating way, that show the kitchen cares about everything they present. Unfortunately, we were traveling though, otherwise I may live there. I could not recommend reserving yourself a meal here any more strongly. We all had a very good experience and can not wait til we are able to return. Thank you to all who made this experience for us.

Unique and interesting dinner experience. Friendly and knowledgeable service, quality meals and unique home/turned restaurant atmosphere. Nice wine and cocktail selection. The port (on the dessert menu) was fantastic! I recommend the salmon. Yum! You’ll need a reservation, as seating is limited.

As a Brazilian and a total dessert person, the very first thing that made me want to try Salt of the Earth was their Brazilian Carrot Cake with ganache and toasted coconut. It sounded like home. But little did I know that the entire meal would turn out to be one of the best dining experiences I’ve ever had.
We started with the Beetroot Cheesecake, and wow—what a surprise. It was light, flavorful, with just the right balance of sweet and savory. Honestly, it was the kind of dish you take one bite of and instantly know you’re in for something special.
For the main course, we had the Bone-in Porterhouse Veal, which was the special of the day. Perfectly seasoned (I mean really, some restaurants forget salt exists—but not here!), and served with this creamy, dreamy buttermilk, golden raisin, spinach, and blue cheese risotto. Every bite was rich and comforting. The green beans were perfectly blanched, and the strawberry wine coulis added such a unique and delicious twist to the whole dish.
Then came dessert—and it felt like a warm hug from home. The Brazilian Carrot Cake was moist, not too sweet, with that perfect crunch from the toasted coconut. I honestly got emotional—it tasted just like the cake my mom used to make. We also tried the Ice Box Lime Cake, which was fresh and light, and the warm oatmeal cookies, which were just pure cozy deliciousness.
I even have to talk about the water! It was so refreshing and served at the perfect temperature. It might sound silly, but it really stood out to me.
And our waiter, Mark—he was amazing. So kind and friendly, like someone you’ve known for years. He noticed we were struggling to take a photo and offered to snap one for us. When I mentioned how much I loved the water (yes, I really did), he made sure to keep my glass full all night. His little gestures made the night feel even more special.
Salt of the Earth was by far the highlight of our trip to Lake Placid. Every part of the evening—from the flavors to the atmosphere to the kindness of the staff—made it unforgettable. I already can’t wait to come back.

After a few disappointing meals in Lake Placid we found this absolute gem. Everything was spot on from the bread
service to the dessert. The stand out dishes were the Golden Beetroot Cheesecake and the Grilled Heritage Pork chop cooked to perfection. The dining room was warm and inviting and service was fantastic, would highly recommend dining here

Adorable restaurant with a unique and delicious take on dinner. Ordered: Roaster Beetroot Cheesecake (a starter), Duck Fritters, Pan Seared Duck Breast, and the NY Strip. Tiramisu and Oatmeal Raison cookies finished the meal. A wonderful find in Lake Placid!

5 stars to everything at Salt of the Earth Bistro! We had 7PM reservations, which we had to change a later time due to the snowstorm as we were driving north on NY thruway 87 with heavy snow. They were super friendly, understanding and accommodating. Our waiter, Mark was very friendly and kind. Food was delicious! From salads to our Salmon entrees, dessert, so tasty! Cool and unique atmosphere. Feels like being over someone’s cozy house for dinner. Overall, my partner and I were very satisfied and felt welcomed here and cannot wait to dine at Salt of the Earth Bistro again next time visiting Lake Placid, NY. Thanks! -Kevin
