This place reminds me of the old-school Chinese and Taiwanese places you’d find in the San Gabriel Valley in SoCal in the early 2000s. Mandarin speaking, straightforward service and just good Chinese comfort food.

At 11am on a Saturday it was packed with mainlanders, a good sign. What I really love about it is the honest pricing…we ordered a noodle, pan-fried buns and wonton soup for only $41 total. That’s a steal in this crazy economy, especially considering how labor-intensive Chinese dumplings are.

– Shanghai pan fried buns were crispy on outside, fluffy on the inside. Delicious!
– The shepherd’s purse wonton was okay, but slightly over-boiled; the wrappers were gummy.
– Scallion oil noodles were delicious and in a generous serving that two can share

The elderly couple running this place are both really nice and friendly. They’re more comfortable speaking Mandarin but they speak some English as well.

We ordered a few dish, Cooked chicken in rice wine, Shanghai-style bun, napa cabbage with rice cake, pan-fried pork bun, and braised beef noodle.

The only dish I thought was decent was the napa cabbage with rice cake. Even though it’s a bit different from what I had before, the flavor was good. The rest of the dishes were disappointing, and I would not recommend them.

The cooked chicken in rice wine was way too overcooked.
The Shanghai-style soup bun had wrappers that were too thick, and the filling was too greasy.
The pan-fried pork bun tasted ok, but you could tell the seasoning was too salty.
The raised beef noodle soup was really a meh, noodles were all stuck together, the broth was mid, and the beef was very tough and overcooked.

Absolute hidden gem. Don’t let the unassuming storefront fool you — this place delivers. Classic hole-in-the-wall energy: no frills, just solid, flavorful Shanghai comfort food. The noodles are springy, the soup dumplings are legit, and the portions are generous.

I’ve been back multiple times and it always hits the spot. If you know, you know. Love it.

Very friendly and gave us a lot of recommendations for what to eat. Also actually spoke Shanghainese

Ambiance: 4/5
A but dirty but that’s iconic and it was bustling. There were various chinese newspaper clippings along the walls.

Food: 5/5
It was authentic, it was bussin.

Not a very big place but just enough to enable parties of 5. The dishes are all served as family style so you should be prepared to share. The prices are really good compared to what you pay for around the bay. The family that runs the place are as nice as can be. We ordered a lot of food so I’ll just touch on a couple of items that I really liked. The dried pork noodle was nice and flavorful. The beef noodle was not super flavorful but boy is it hearty, try to finish that even with help!! The soup dumplings were nice and fresh, most definitely my fav dish. You don’t come away feeling heavy or bloated. All the food came out fast and hot, you would not be disappointed coming here.

Absolutely delicious. If you love Shanghai style Chinese food, this is a great place to go. Went with a friend, ordered the dried green onion and pork noodles, curry beef noodles and the pan fried bao and were both stuffed by the end. All great dishes and I will definitely come again.

It is located in a quiet corner in a small plaza. Everything is good except the Xiaolongbao doesn’t have soup. The staffs are friendly. Recommend.

Very authentic Shanghainese style food. Spicy soup noodles can sure test your ability to stand hot food. Steamed and fried dumplings, and Xiao Long Bao are must-eat items. Appetizers like jellyfish and stewed spare rib chunks are highly recommended. Mr Song is the owner. He is ever friendly and efficient. This place is a rare find on East Bay.
