Crickets Inside (not actual crickets, just surprisingly empty) The host was informative and described the small menu very well. I am not a smash burger fan… didn’t even know it was a smash burger place. lol… but wanted to give it a try and it was very good. Juicy and flavorful. Way better than expected and I would recommend this place to someone looking to get a decent burger in the evening. Wasn’t super overpriced and would have liked to see a little more variety but definitely enjoyed the meal and will be returning again! Get a double for whatever burger you try and you will have a good time.

My husband and I have been looking for a go-to smash burger place and Lucky Burgers may be it!! Stopped in for our first time this weekend and had the signature lucky burger. Their homemade sauce is great, as others have mentioned the Dijon is not overpowering but adds great flavor. Great service and plenty of room for parking. We can’t wait to come back and try the rest of the menu!

Smash Burgers & Standout Service

First Impressions & Menu Vibes
This was my first time trying Lucky Burger a no-frills spot focused on smash burgers, with a handful of sides and chicken options (tenders and a sandwich). The menu is simple but promising—exactly what I crave when I want a juicy, no-nonsense burger.

The Meal: Lucky Double Cheeseburger & Waffle Fries
I ordered the Lucky Double Cheeseburger “with everything” and a side of waffle fries with Cajun mayo (the only spicy sauce they had, normally served on their chicken sandwich).

– The Burger: Came out piping hot with melty cheese and a generous pile of grilled onions—always a win. The Dijon mayo (their signature sauce) was decent but leaned neutral; I barely tasted the Dijon. Next time, I’d swap it for the Cajun mayo, right away—that spicy kick is a game-changer!
– The Fries: Perfectly seasoned and crispy. No complaints here—they held their own against the burger.
– Balance: Loved that the burger wasn’t overly salty, which let the beef and toppings shine.

Price & Value
Total came to $16 for the burger+fries, plus a $5 tip(service deserved it!). While $20+ is standard for a sit-down burger meal these days, it’s on the higher end for what’s essentially fast-casual fare. That said, the quality and service justified it.

Standout: The Service
Shoutout to my server for walking me through the menu—super helpful for a first-timer! The hospitality made the experience even better.

Final Thoughts
I’m already planning my next visit to try the chicken sandwich and tenders—and maybe even that sweet-and-sour pepper burger (I’m skeptical but curious!). If you love smash burgers with traditional flavors, this place delivers. Hopefully they add a spicier burger option in the future, with their Cajun sauce and maybe jalapeños.

This spot is great! It’s quiet at dinner time so you’ll never wait. The food is amazing. We got burgers and they came with waffle fries that were nice and crispy. The burger tasted so fresh and the guy running the place was super nice! Can’t wait to go back and bring people.

LUCKY BURGERS

Daaamn who knew this lowkey spot was goooodd! Can’t believe I barely tried this spot since it’s down the road of where I live. Got the FULL house double smash burger with bacon, cheddar cheese, grilled onions and “dijonaise” combo with waffle fries/ drink for around 18$. Really loved the freshness of this burger and the bacon was so crispy and just right and with the cheddar cheese. Waffle fries had a Cajun seasoning and were crispy and fresh. Our new go to burger spot ! Also I enjoyed their fried chicken Sanwhich with chipotle mayo and lettuce and pickles, soo crispy and everything is fresh off the grill.

The owner is there to tell you about his passion for these burgers. Tried a couple different ones and waffle fries. Don’t miss this place! Really good carmelization on the pattie and grilled onions and dijionase. I will be back.

We went with our Burger Club to Lucky Burgers (a.k.a. Jelly Cafe after dark or 4pm, whichever comes first).

Jelly Cafe is a breakfast and lunch place open 7am until 2pm. Then they switch over to Lucky Burgers which is open from 4pm until no one is there and they want to go home. Though technically I think they’re open until 8 or 9pm.

There are a handful of items on the Lucky Burgers’ menu: about 5 variations of their classic burger, a chicken sandwich, chicken tenders, and waffle fries.

When we went, the place was empty and never got busy. Which opened the door for one of the owners, Scott, to regale us with tales of days gone by from his childhood in Evanston and the famous people he knew, grew up with, and worked with. It was nice hearing these stories and it was nice to give Scott something and somebodies to talk to as well.

The place has a large parking lot and is nice and clean on the inside. There is a tiny area with slot machines and a small bar/counter at the entrance.

The burgers are all smashburgers. They come as singles or double patties. Go for the double as there’s not a whole lot of meat once they’re smashed. The differences are the toppings. Scott recommends their housemade dijonaise sauce which is good, but ask for it on the side. The cook slathers it on the burger and that’s all you can taste. Once I scooped (you read that correctly) the sauce off my burger, it was a pretty good burger. The meat is seasoned well and cooked nicely and the bun holds up (despite dripping in dijonaise).

We all shared the chicken tenders as an appetizer. Five nice sized tenders come in the meal and you can choose your dipping sauce. Scott recommended their honey mustard which was very good and the ranch wasn’t bad either.

He is also johnny-on-the-spot to refill fill your drinks. I seriously thought that I would float away.

The best part is the price. All said and done for a burger, waffle fries, and a soda, with tax and tip is like $15-$18 bucks.

It’s a nice place that I need to go back to and visit for the Jelly Cafe side. AND return for their burgers, tenders, and more of Scott’s stories.

It’s insane that a burger this good costs under $20. Stu provided us with excellent and classic service, making sure we got the best food for what we were craving and even made us an ice cream Sunday for dessert! Highly recommend!

This place really wowed me. I got a burger and their waffle fries and it was extremely good!!! Especially for the price of their burgers. The guy (owner im assuming) that was at the bar took really good care of me. He was such a kind person & made some really really good food. If you are in town and want a burger, this is the place to go. You will not be disappointed. Waffle fries & a really good burger. What else could you ask for?
