The ambiance of this restaurant is impressive from the moment you walk in. A massive open fire-pit kitchen dominates the space, and from most seats you can watch your meal being prepared. The chefs don’t just cook, they perform. Every movement feels intentional, almost theatrical.
Despite the cost, we decided to lean fully into what this restaurant is known for: the grilled meats, strip steaks for me and salmon for my wife’s birthday. You can order sandwiches , but let’s be honest, the grilled meats are the feature here, so why order anything else?
One of the most memorable moments was watching the chef pull a plank of wood from the fire pit with massive tongs, wave it through the air until the flames died down and it was left glowing, then place it on a plate and set a salmon steak directly on top. It was mesmerizing.
I’ll admit, I don’t always love steak, so while I enjoyed the spectacle, my expectations were tempered. Then the food arrived, and everything changed.
The cheddar biscuits came out first and were excellent. The sides were delicious. Then the steak arrived, cooked to absolute perfection. It was easily one of the best steaks I’ve ever had, tender, flavorful, and expertly prepared.
This is the kind of dining experience I’d expect to find in New York, Chicago, or Los Angeles, yet it’s right here in downtown Columbus. A must-visit for anyone who appreciates great ambiance paired with truly outstanding food.

Loved the atmosphere, the service, and the drinks. Was significantly disappointed by the food. We got the eggplant fries, biscuits, and chicken sandwich. They were mostly cooked well but lacked great seasoning. For the price, I would expect at least one good flavored dish. This restaurant has great potential!

The food was amazing! If you go be sure to try their Mac n cheese, it was phenomenal. I’d venture to say it was the best steak I’ve ever had at a restaurant as well. It was a little pricey but once we tasted the food, well worth it the drinks were also top notch.

Megan with Offline – A lovely place for Sunday lunch! Tortilla soup and Mac and cheese were excellent, as was the burger and salad. And the vanilla banana cheesecake is next level – everything exceeded expectations! And they even put is right by a TV to watch the CFP selection show!

What a fantastic experience as our first time dining here on Thursday night! As soon as we walking in we were greeted by the cutest hostess! Our server Ben was the sweetest soul, the food was incredible! Beautiful open kitchen with a gorgeous fire wood grill! Erica the manager came over to welcome us as this was our first time in and we live in the area. She gave us a bottle of rosé on the house! Such kind folks here! That alone these days, you know but the food was excellent! The wings perfection, scallop ceviche fresh and perfectly seasoned! We got the ribeye and Brussels and the grits! Exceptional! Drinks were beyond divine! Highly recommend! My favorite dine out experience in ages! I will be a regular now for sure and bring family and friends when they are in town! Well done Little West Tavern! You stole my heart! Love Amy

Was so looking forward based on reviews, but left very disappointed. 1st off, the bar staff (the 2 males) had zero personality and even worse service. It was not busy at the bar, but they came over only a few times to check on us and never offered my friend a water glass, put a bottle close to us and never even said it was a bottle of water to refill my water glass. When I asked the bartender if he could recommend a tequila to put in their vigin margarita on the manu, he says sure and walked away. Im like where are you going? You didnt give me a recommendation. He said he was just gonna put such n such tequila in there. What?! Without telling me. I asked for a recommendation, which requires a verbal response. Horrible service! My 2 small basic margaritas that he said was made with middle of the road tequila were way over priced. $18 each. My friend’s eggplant fries were just loaded with breading and grease and super underwhelming. My shrimp avocado salad was so small most average people would have left hungry. Im tiny so it was enough, but usually I have left overs. And for $20!. 2 margaritas and a tiny salad came to $71!. And the service was horrible. Sure the place itself has a cool look, but I’d never go back. I would however go to hang out in the hotel connected bar area and lobby. That looked way more inviting.

We popped into Little West Tavern hoping for a solid meal and left with full bellies, mixed opinions, and one fly-related trauma.
The food rundown:
Prime rib – Absolutely nailed it. Tender, flavorful, cooked just right. No notes.
Biscuits – I thought they were meh; my wife loved them. Marriage is about compromise.
Chicken wings – These were the letdown of the night. Promised buffalo, delivered… plain confusion. Not a hint of heat or tang.
Mac & Cheese – Good on its own, but they added a salsa verde twist that felt like a culinary identity crisis. Some things just shouldn’t date.
Gin house cocktail – Purple, classy, and genuinely delicious. Felt like drinking a fancy potion in a good way.
Service? Excellent. Servers were attentive, kind, and on top of everything. No complaints there.
Atmosphere? Now here’s where things got dicey. It’s an open-concept space — half indoor, half outdoor. Sounds lovely until a fly lands in your wife’s eye while another one joins your mac & cheese like it’s invited to dinner.
Also, it was HOT. Like sticky, “is the air sweating?” hot. Even though we were technically inside, the open wall design made the whole place feel like a sunroom at high noon in July. If I wanted to sweat while eating, I’d go to a sauna with snacks.
Overall: The food had some highs (prime rib, cocktail), some lows (wings, flies), and the setting was charming in theory but needed more temperature control and less bug traffic.
Final rating: 3.5 stars, rounded up to 4 because Yelp won’t let me do halves — but let’s just say, if they close those big doors on hot days, I’d bump it to a solid 4.

We were visiting from out of state. We went out for a late dinner and found this spot. After checking out the menu, we weren’t sure we were going to stay because we wanted something simple and everything seemed extravagant. It was late in the evening, so we opted for salads thinking we’d just get a regular salad like every other restaurant. Nope!! We got these extravagant salads that were the best salads we’ve ever had!! The presentation was completely different and they were delicious!! We’ll definitely be back when we visit again!! Our waitress, Karen, was a delight. She had a great sense of humor and she took great care of us.

A salad for $30 is low key crazy but I would probably do it again. This spot is super cute. The bartender was extremely welcoming, attentive and professional. Outside and Inside seating was available and the views of the museum and park is an added touch. The food was good and its conveniently located next to the lobby of the Junto. 5 stars.

Absolutely incredible experience at Little West Tavern! We ordered the 16 oz ribeye and the shrimp & grits, and it was hands down the best meal we’ve had in years. The ribeye was insanely flavorful—juicy with the perfect crisp on the outside. The shrimp & grits were rich, comforting, and packed with flavor.
Our server, Bayley, was fantastic—attentive, friendly, and made the whole evening even better. The ambiance was warm and inviting, perfect for a great night out.
Highly recommend Little West Tavern. We’ll definitely be back!
