Reviews
The Charred Spanish Octopus was very tender & not chewy or rubbery.
The Tuna Poké was fresh & bursted with flavor from the kimchi. Those hand cut wasabi dusted potato chips were perfectly spicy & not greasy.
The Veal Saltimbocca was tender with all of the flavors melding perfectly together.
The Miso Glazed Grouper was perfectly cooked & I could drink that ginger-coconut broth!
Always save room for dessert… Their Chocolate Crème Brûlée had a nicely torched shell with rich chocolate inside. Salty, creamy, chewy Caramel Profiteroles came compliments of the Chef, as we couldn’t stop raving about the quality & execution; he was so gracious enough to come out & talk about his technique & purveyors.
We ended off a perfect meal with a Cappuccino & their Decadent Hot Chocolate made with almond milk.
Thank you for a flawless dinner start to finish, can’t wait to return!
We made reservations for Thanksgiving dinner @4pm. They seemed to have things well in hand: a limited menu: 2 appetizers, 3 dinners, 3 desserts to choose from.
Unfortunately, execution just wasn’t there:
– we were seated upon arrival @4 pm
– the view was gorgeous – lake toxaway is beautiful
– our water order was taken, and then drinks.
– wine was delivered at about 4:20 – the other two closer to 4:45
– we ordered dinner at about 4:45
– appetizers came at about 5:15
– dinner came at 6:15 – but was sent back because it was cold (room temperature at best)
– when dessert was finally served, they got one of them wrong & took almost 10 minutes to fix.
By the time we left, it was after 7pm – and we were one of the last to leave!
No explanation for the cold food or as to why others who arrived after, were served before us – but they did comp our drinks.
The food was OK (once reheated) – nothing remarkable, but with the limited menu & it being a holiday, I’m sure we weren’t seeing their best.
But given how well setup they should have been for success (namely the limited menu), the execution fell completely flat.
We were hoping for so much more. Thankfully, our party was comprised of excellent people, gifted at making the best of difficult circumstances – so I’m spite of the service failures, we enjoyed ourselves.
The wait staff was poorly prepared to answer our questions pertaining to the menu. I had to return my steak and ate it but was not satisfied with the way it was cooked. The wine I ordered was different from my second glass. However, on a positive note, the view of the lake was nice. Needless to say we will not return.
It’s unfortunate because the views are very nice and the accommodations are comfortable.
But the things you go out for, food and service, were only adequate to poor.
We dined here five times, so we base our score on a good sample size, not just one bad experience.
Our first experience was at lunch. The waitress was charming and knowledgeable. The food took forever, and when it arrived it was underwhelming. Brown avocado in the salad, dry and tough ban mih.
The breakfast we had was the most pleasant as far as food, except the $12 waffle looked very much like a Costco frozen waffle and we were pestered nonstop by flies and yellow jackets outside. Coffee was weak.
Dinner was the weakest experience. Poorly prepared food, uninspired service and very high prices. We sent back the improperly cooked $46 ribeye steak (see picture) and my wife was completely finished with her meal when the crusted trout arrived, which was also not good. We’d had to flag down another waitress because ours was not to be found.
There were lots of other problems, too many to mention. The reason we dined here so many times is because it’s a long drive to any other restaurant, and we kept thinking “let’s give it another chance”. So, shame on us for not venturing out.
The wine list is also over priced.
Two stars for the view.
Do not waste your money.
Recommend that you read through all the reviews before deciding to eat here. We did not stay at the Inn but made a reservation for brunch at the restaurant. I’m a former fine dining server, so I’m usually pretty forgiving, but this place really needs better leadership and staff training! Just walking to the front door of the restaurant, one feels as if it’s not the right way– down a steep narrow walkway with vague signage to a heavy closed door. At 9:30 am on a Sunday, staff was still cleaning the bathrooms and carpet. We were shown to a table with a lovely view of the lake, and that was the only highlight of the morning. Our server was not friendly or helpful. She practically rolled her eyes when my husband asked for a clean coffee cup and I asked for a spoon for my sugar and cream. The coffee was lukewarm. The menu we were given was abbreviated from the one on their website. There was no mention on it of not permitting substitutions. My husband asked if he could modify a dish and was given a flat, “No.” My blueberry pancakes and side of bacon were pretty good, but my husband’s egg breakfast was equivalent to Denny’s. Since he wasn’t permitted to substitute his side of bread for a biscuit, we ordered an additional side of 2 biscuits. They were raw in the middle! Our server never bothered to check back with us, so I asked the host to take it off our bill. He took the plate and literally poked his finger in one of the biscuits and said, “They are slightly undercooked.” Other than a group who appeared to be staying at the Inn, we were the only customers. We walked over to the main building and observed a similar lack of attention to detail. It looked dingy and run down. Not even a fire lit on a chilly, rainy morning. I would avoid this place altogether.
