Wonderful place to get sushi and favourite dishes like how they serve them in Japan. The assorted sushi option is a very good deal for the variety and quality of the fish. Incredible variety and each piece is intentionally plated and assembled with care. Plus it’s clear that it’s well prepared by the chef. Bluefin negitoro was a bit too fishy for me, but some may enjoy that flavour. I believe it was too close to the bloodline. Highlights were the shishito tempura and beef tataki. In fact, the tataki was the best I’ve ever had in my life! Their tempura is so light and fresh, that we ordered multiple plates of the shishito peppers. The plates used are absolutely beautiful and it’s clear that presentation and integrity are core values here.

They had so many unique items like shirako and several unique fish from Japan. I do wish they used real wasabi, as the nigiri was a touch too heavy handed for my taste. Absolutely recommend for those looking for something more traditional and elegant.

What a hidden gem! Best sushi I’ve had in a very long time. Traditional sushi bar so the service was intimate and professional. Fresh sashimi (forgot to take photo) and every dish was amazing! Very small so reservations are strongly advised. A bit pricey but you pay for the quality. Would definitely return for special occasions.

Toyo’ing around…

I can’t remember when was the first time I came here, must’ve been a long time ago. Well back here again for the second time.

Easily found paid street parking out front. Arrived and got seated right away, it wasn’t busy. Inside has about 5 tables with sushi bar seatings, a casual dining atmosphere owned and operated by Japanese (honestly, some of the best restaurants nowadays are not own or operated by the same ethnic group).

Anyways, here were the food I ordered;

1. Beef tataki. It was okay, pretty basic but the sauce was a bit on the extra sour side.
2. Oyster motoyaki. Fresh and tasty, however, I think $15 each was a bit overpriced compared to similar restaurants.
3. Appetizer tempura. It was pretty decent and standard.
4. 3 kind assorted sashimi (sockeye salmon, tuna, hamachi). The salmon and tuna were okay but the hamachi wasn’t as fresh. For $34, the quality has to be spot on.
5. Akami, chu toro, anago, japanese uni nigiris. They were all fresh however the anago was a bit overcooked.
6. Madai, kinmedai, hirame, kanpachi, ikura, toro. Everything was good and fresh.

Overall, it’s a nice little cozy place that offers a casual and relaxing dining atmosphere. Pretty simple layout with daily and specialty dishes posted by the sushi bar.

The service here was okay. Pretty friendly and straight forward.

As for the food, I personally find it a little on the pricier side compared to similar restaurants. I can see it being what it is maybe a decade ago, but nowadays specialty fish such as bluefin, kanpachi, madai, etc…, are pretty common.

Nevertheless, $300 for 2 people for what I ordered, it has to be justified by higher quality and selection such as the 3 kinds of sashimis. I don’t think I’ll be Toyo’ing around for a while.

This is one of my favorite sushi spots in the Heights. Great for a date night meal and chill at the sushi bar. Good for small groups.

Highly recommend the any of the chefs choice options.

This is a fantastic sushi joint in Burnaby heights and I consider it a hidden gem.

The pricing is a bit higher but it’s well deserved. The quality of the ingredients they use is very noticeable, and the quality and care the food is prepared with can be seen.

Overall, a fantastic dining experience and highly recommend any sushi lover to check it out. If you’re feeling adventurous, get their omakase.

I visited after seeing the review, and I was more satisfied than I thought. The place I originally wanted to visit was closed, and thanks to this, I was able to find a new restaurant. I liked the fresh and clean ingredients. Asari miso soup is delicious. The shrimp tempura was also really delicious. It is one of the few Japanese restaurants run by the Japanese. I recommend you to visit.

Best Japanese food and Sashimi that I have tried in Vancouver!! It’s a small but cozy restaurant. Don’t let how the store front look fooled you, the food was really tasty and authentic. We had the chef’s Omakase and other hot dishes, the ingredients were very fresh and the flavour was . We spent around $150 per person that night. Highly recommend even at the price point.

My girlfriend took me here for my birthday.

One of the best authentic sushi experience I have ever had and I’ve been to Japan. I have never tasted tempura this good before and I’ve had tons of different tempura experiences.
This restaurant will definitely cost you a pretty penny, but it’s worth the experience. Highly recommend the bluefin otoro if you’ve never tried it before. They have very high quality fish here.
They also have specials for the day that’s is worth checking out.

Definitely not one of your usual Vancouver sushi experience. Highly recommended if you want a really good high quality sushi experience.
