I ate lunch at Mamacitas twice in one week and cannot sing enough praises about how delicious the food is. Pollo Guisado, Birria Quesadillas, Empanadas, Coconut Rice… there isn’t a bad thing on the menu at this amazing Puerto Rican gem.

BUT… and it’s a very important but…
I HAVE to praise this place for its Birria Thursday. It is delicious, incredibly flavorful and has a unique taste that makes it superior to any birria I’ve had the pleasure of eating elsewhere. I ordered the birria quesadilla and was immediately blown away with the generous portion sizing, followed immediately by the warm, tantalizing scents wafting off out of the to-go container that was holding my meal. The consomme that came with my quesadilla was rich, bursting with flavor and elevated my already delectable quesadilla from amazing to heavenly.

I wish I could eat here every day. If I get the chance to come back to Syracuse, I will make the world’s fastest beeline to Mamacita’s. 100/10 can’t recommend enough if you’re local or just visiting.

The food was just okay. The rice and beans were pretty plain. The carne asada tacos were a bit chewy. The chicken was overly spicy. The plantains were good. Super cold and hard chairs. Enjoyed the music. The staff was very friendly and personable.

The inside of this establishment is smaller than desirable to have a meal and conversation. My experience was not great as the table next to us spent 30 minutes complaining and even when the owner comped their meals and addressed the concerns they still complained. Due to the awkward energy our waitress was inattentive to our table in the corner next to this group.

Menu is plentiful with some great options. I didn’t have a margarita, but I saw others and the size to me was not a 12 dollar drink. I also felt that the price of the loaded fries was overpriced as well, I left hungry which is almost impossible to do with Mexican food. I got the macdaddy fries, which were advertised to be hot honey fries. As someone who has hot honey frequently there was not an ounce of honey on my dish. The meal was still good, but it didn’t meet the flavor profile I expected, and I was still hungry after my normal size order of fries with hamburger and sauce was finished. A friend got the baria quesadila but had to ask for the sauce to dip.

The servers were kind but for a small room with 3 servers and a bartender I am unsure how tables are left to wait as long as we did or go without all of our order.

I would get take out but for the price I would probably go with another establishment that will not leave me hungry.

We had the Cuban sandwich, mofongo and the birria tacos to go.. the dine in area is small and basic but the food was excellent. The Cuban was large and came with seasoned fries both were excellent. (Fries were outstanding cajun style) The mofongo is large and tasty. The birria tacos were excellent, the consomme it comes with was outstanding.
A bit different than what I’ve had before but a good different.. A lot of take out orders coming in while we ate. We recommend this small gem and will frequent it often.

Overall, the food was okay. I do wish they automatically brought chips and salsa to the table. We ended up ordering salsa instead, and it was honestly the weirdest salsa I have ever had. The beef barbacoa tacos were still pretty good and very flavorful. Unfortunately, we were seated to the right as soon as you walk in. It is a small space with limited seating, but every time someone came in, it got sooo cold. I would try it again since it might have been a fluke, but I would probably order takeout next time.

Food here is always fantastic. The cubano is the best I’ve found in the area and the tacos are great too. The amount of garlic they put in their fries is also awesome as many places never put enough. The rice leaves something to be desired for me, but I’m a big fan of plain white rice or Filipino garlic fried rice so that’s more of a me thing. I’m glad I’m not closer or I’d probably come here too much to the detriment of my waistline.

I ordered a Cuban sandwich and a beef pastelillo. The Bread was extremely fresh and the pastelillo was absolutely perfectly fried. Even the french fries that came with the sandwich were perfect. This place is near my work and I am sure to order from here again. Would love to also know if they cater !? Bendición a todos !

I always hate nagging on location, but people DO choose where to put their restaurants, and this location is a packed mini strip mall with very limited parking. Also, on the restaurant itself the windows are very large and vehicles park directly in front of them. So any time someone comes or goes, you’re blinded momentarily. They should definitely close the tattered blinds that exist at least if they do not want to put up any nice window coverings. Lastly on location, the restaurant itself is very small. And with as busy as it got, it was hard to even have a conversation with the people at my table.

As far as the food, it was ok. Nothing really to write home about. I got the spicy beef tacos. They had good flavor but were extremely greasy. Though I’d imagine that was due to the fact that the owner had to rush cook them herself. Which brings me to the next item….

The service was absolutely the worst I have ever received. It is factually the reason I will never go back to this restaurant. To be clear, not all the service staff was as terrible as ours. I’m sure this one individual is not a great representative for the entire restaurant. However, we admittedly took some time
To place our order as a couple of us were having a hard time deciding what to eat. So I was understanding when we were waiting for our food even a half an hour after we had finished our appetizer. Unfortunately during this time frame, we also ordered a second round of drinks. I watched a table next to us order, receive their food, eat their food, and receive their bill by the time I finally had to personally go to the bar to get our second round of beverages. As far as our meal, an hour after we ordered we were informed by the distraught owner that somehow our order was never put in. She stated she would be comping our visit and that she herself would be cooking our meals and would have them out as quickly as possible.

She delivered. In a situation that was not directly her fault she did what she could to make it better. At that point I was “ok” about the situation. Unfortunately the waitress that failed us the entire evening came to our table after we had finished with our meal with a bill.

Prior to looking at the bill I simply stated “oh the owner said it was on the house”. With a snotty little attitude as if we were the problem, this young woman had the nerve to say no, just your meals. So not only did this person never come back to our table other than to hand us a bill, but she never apologized for her terrible service, and then she wants to give ME Attitude? The owner came back with the bill and handed us our cards and apologized for the additional confusion and did in fact not charge us. However, the damage was done.

This employee should be fired. Not only are they not a good server, but they are extremely rude and entitled.

The restaurant gets 2 stars as I saw no effort from the owner to make this person apologize. As well as the mediocre food, and unfortunate location. Not to mention the window situation with the headlights. That’s honestly a very easy thing to fix. But when you overlook the extremely poor quality even in just one staff member, I guess expecting them to notice the window issue is asking a lot.

Mamacitas is hands down my favorite place to eat. Whenever possible, I head there to get the Birria Tacos Combo. The service is always friendly and professional, even when it’s busy and packed. I drive quite a distance to go there, but consider it a worthwhile drive. Do yourself and favor and check it out!
