Shabuway

  4.4 – 340 reviews   • Shabu-shabu restaurant

Shabu Shabu is a very healthy and all natural meal, where all the excess fat from the meat is cooked off and stays in the pot. The meaning of “Shabu Shabu” said to come from the sound that is made as the meat gently “Swish Swish” back and forth through the broth. Our Shabu Shabu broth is very light so it won’t disrupt the natural flavors of the meat, and is not intended to be enjoyed “as is.” Once your meat and vegetables are cooked in the pot, dip them into our house made dipping sauces. At the end of your meal, it’s common to cook noodles in the broth. “Shi-me,” which means, “closing dish,” is the perfect ending for your Shabu Shabu experience.

Japanese outpost offering cook-it-yourself shabu-shabu meals in a cozy dining room.

This is a great place. They have an all you can eat options and i took advantage of it. I had kobe, pork, lamb and Angus beef. All of it was great. My favorite was the pork.
The bar has individual cooking spots while the tables have one for the table.
I ate way too much!
The food quality is great and worth the price. Check the menu on the costs.

This place has a great variety of soups, and they also offer combos. The portions are really big. It’s fun that you get to cook the soup yourself, and they bring the meat to you. There’s even a combo with unlimited meat, very exciting, but be careful, it’s super hot
Honestly, I’m not sure if we ate it the right way, but it was definitely a fun experience.

Came over for lunch. It is a typical shabu restaurant. There is a special menue for lunch where guests select the type of cut, and broth. Some broth has spicy rating so make sure to select the spicy level that you can be comfortable with. The broth is a little on the salty side. Meat is freshly prepared, same as vegetables. Attentive staff to check on guests. The place is not much busy at that time.

The food, especially the meat is good. But the service is not great. Shabu-shabu is a high maintenance dish – you will need to add broth, request for more sauce, and order more dishes. Even though the waiters are responsive when you talk to them, I feel it is not easy to get attention from one. They are constantly busy with chores like cleaning the table top, and when we need something, we only get attention when a waiter happens to pass by or serving a table next to us.

What is not really acceptable is that the minute we finished eating, the waitress came up and brought the pos machine, a gesture as if saying “leave right now”. She does not treat any other table like this so we suspect it is targeted racial hate behavior.

The room is not heated, and it was 46F that day. Definitely the dining atmosphere is not cozy either.

If I rate my bad dining experiences in the Bay Area this year, this restaurant would be top on the list. Definitely would not come back.

SHABUWAY shabu shabu: where the hot-pot game is strong and the meats are top-notch. It’s like taking a trip to Japan without leaving your seat. Whether you go for the meal set or the all-you-can-eat option, you’re in for a treat. The quality of meats is so good, it’s like they have their own fan club. Definitely a must-try for all the shabu shabu enthusiasts out there!

We came here during dinner time and waited about 10 minutes for a table. We went for the AYCE shabu with the Angus beef meat only.

Service: 10/10
The server who served us was very accommodating. We had originally chosen miso broth and seaweed broth but we realize the seaweed broth was just hot water and 2 small pieces of seaweed, so we asked the server to change that broth to Tonkatsu broth and she switched it immediately. We also asked for chili oil with extra peanut sauce and she also brought it out quickly. I also notice that as soon as we were done with oir meat, another plate would come quickly, which shows how attentive the workers were.

Shabu: 10/10
We love the two broth! If I had to choose which one I like more, I would say the Miso broth would be my favorite! The angus beef was brought to us with a thin sliced cut. The meat quality was very juicy and you can tell it’s fresh since you see them slice it in the middle of the restaurant. Putting the veggie bowl in the broth with the meat made the broth super rich in flavor.

Overall, I would come back again when I’m craving hot pot. This is a great spot for casual dining.

Had a split pot with two soup bases. The pork one was made out of some artificial tonkatsu flavor packet and the spicy miso one was flavored with gochujang. Definitely not a big fan of either. Tried three kinds of meats – The black pork, American Kobe beef and Lamb were all very tender but they were also shaved paper thin. The only reason we could leave feeling full was because of the big bowl of raman they include in the package meal.

After a large trip exploring the west coast and trying foods from all over – THIS – is the one spot that lingers in my mind as somewhere I would go back to. It was my first Shabu Shabu and it was. Delicious! The meats cut fresh in front of you, amazing broths, the dips are NOT to be underestimated, and the fun variety of vegetables. You can easily split a meat platter for a party of two (add on the veggies) or get your own or go unlimited if super hungry!

Picked the all you can eat and it’s good value if you feel like eating a lot under no time restraints. If not, you can pick what you want. If there’s a mixed preference within the group and some want the all you can eat and others do not, you can sit at the counter so everyone gets their own pot. They have 5 types of meat, and funnily enough I liked the Angus Prime most. It was funny cos if you choose to only eat that, it’s cheaper. I’d recommend an all you can eat of everything just cos otherwise you’d have no variation which is harder to enjoy a lot of. We ate 2 plates of almost everything between 2 people. We got the veggie broth (mild and slightly sweet) and tonkatsu curry broth (moderately spicy). You may want to swap out the entire broth pot after 4-5 plates or so if you’re gonna keep going. We ate 8 plates and the curry broth started burning and sticking to the side. Both broths got really oily towards the end and ruined the taste of the meat even with the water that was added. It was inedible past that point. So just ask to fill the broth with water once, and swap it out if you can after that. I added a pic of how the broth changes. The veggies were fresh and yummy. The dipping sauces were nice; though the gomadare sauce was rich for me, I really digged their ponzu sauce. The crab dumplings were not for me (not good, cheap, filling is unrecognisablely mashed crab thingy ick). But a good menu item to exist in case you go with younger children. Staff were professional, our server was friendly and helpful. Food never took too long to come out despite how busy it was. Place has two middle counter areas and a bunch of tables to the walls on each side. Idk what they do when they have a massive group, but they sat a group of 8 at their main large counter when I was dining there. They have a decent bathroom. The person who took me there already eats there with family regularly. I enjoyed the food and atmosphere though it can get loud with a full house.

Good set up, good size, clean looking shabu restaurant with good service. First time here, so didn’t get the all-u-can-eat which seemed a better deal. Got the beef and pork, believe to be aged. Beef was reasonable, a bit above average. The pork was a bit on the dry side. The vegetables plate was very small. Liked the pork soup base. Unfortunately, somewhat low CP!
