The view here is absolutely beautiful — probably the best thing about this restaurant. Unfortunately, the service and food didn’t match the setting.
When my family (a group of five) arrived, I asked for a table with a view that I could see was open. The hostess quickly said it was reserved, but after about five minutes she seated us there and didn’t seem happy about it. From that point, she wasn’t friendly or attentive — it felt like she didn’t want to serve us.
What made this experience especially disappointing is that this happened from one Mexican to another. Sadly, sometimes even among our own community, there’s a stereotype that Mexicans won’t tip well — and that kind of judgment really hurts. We always treat restaurant staff with respect and tip fairly, but that kindness wasn’t shown back to us. It’s was even more clear when the other table next to us seems to be getting a lot of extra attention due to there race.
The food wasn’t great either. The rice tasted like it came from a box — dry and plain — and the meat was overly salted. The only thing I truly enjoyed were the plantains.
Overall, Barrio has an amazing view and is nice if you want photos, but the food and service didn’t live up to it.

Overall the food was ok
: juicy and flavourful
: small but tasty nevertheless
The “house chips” i.e. crips is the one to avoid it was waaaaay too salty and you can visibly see salt grains
Bonus: you get a good view of the Alcatraz

We waited about 45 minutes for a table, but the great view made up for it. Ordered the chips and dip trinity, shrimp tacos, and birria tacos—everything tasted good. Service was friendly and attentive. Drinks were on the pricey side and light on alcohol, but overall it was an enjoyable experience.

The food was decent. Kind of overpriced in my opinion. The plate my nachos came on wasn’t great. Trying to eat them and stuff kept falling off the plate. We asked for fried plantains as an app but when we got our meal and asked about them, the waitress said “oh, I thought that was enough food for you all”. We got plantains because I do love them, but they weren’t as good as others I’ve had. The views were fantastic, though.

Great food, great service! Julia was an amazing server. Margaritas are a must have! If you are looking for gluten free options this is the place for you! Being able to eat chips is amazing! Even my husband non gluten loved this place. We ate here more than once during our stay in San Francisco! Great location and near cable cars!

We had a great meal here on our last night in San Francisco. We ordered the Barrio Ceviche, Nachos with birria and the Halibut Tacos to eat. We also got the Barrio Margarita, Paloma and the Tropical Spritz to drink. Everything was great. The service was fantastic. And the view was beautiful from our table by the window.

My experience here was fantastic, largely thanks to Carlos, the amazing bartender! He’s incredibly knowledgeable and mixed up the most delicious drinks I’ve ever tasted. Carlos also steered us toward an unforgettable meal—his recommendations for the steak plate, ceviche, and nachos were spot on. The food was delicious, the drinks were awesome, and the sunset view was unbelievably pretty. Highly recommend this spot!

I’ll start off by saying that the location and the views are fabulous here. Our server was quite friendly and attentive however the food has mixed reviews. The kids quesadilla was the smallest portion I’ve ever seen. My 10-year-old granddaughter wanted two more orders as her appetite was not satiated.
Chips & Salsa are not complimentary and cost $10. My son said his chicken burrito was tasty. I had shrimp tacos which were flavorful. The rice that came with some of our meals had a nice taste but was crunchy- either undercooked or scraped off the bottom of a pan.
My biggest issue is the difference of ice in a soda versus a margarita. I loved the tamarind margarita yet finished it in 4 sips as the ice was filled to the brim. I’m sure this is a common practice in restaurants and bars as it is profitable for them, but when someone is paying good money for a drink, I think it should last longer than a few sips.

Great Mexican food, service was amazing! We had a great conversation with our server throughout our dining. They had great variety of drinks and draft beers. The views of the bay, Alcatraz and the sunset are amazing in such a beautiful restaurant with huge panoramic glass wall. I ended up, not having to pay for my burrito. The reason was, I ordered a seafood burrito with extra Birria meat but I ended up getting only the meat. I would’ve payed for the original price but obviously don’t complain for it getting taken off. ❣️I always get reservations so no wait time.

I visited Barrio with my wife and daughter, and we had a great time enjoying several delicious dishes and excellent cocktails. The atmosphere is lively, and the place offers a beautiful view. However, it’s definitely not the most child-friendly spot — the menu doesn’t have good options for young kids, and the vibe is much more suited to adults. Still, it’s a great place for a night out or a casual drink with great food.
