Add all this to a place that proudly serves and honors veterans, and you end up with a great American dinner!
“Heroes” is a veteran owned family oriented pizza shop on the outskirts of Churubusco that pays tribute to our military members.
The establishment is super affordable, always clean , with attentive service, AND their pizza is AMAZING.
We drove 40 minutes just to eat here tonight. Their HERO Pizza is a 2” thick pie with everything on it. (Meats and olives, veggies are plentiful.) We also had their APPLE CRUNCH DESSERT Pizza. YUM!!!
Friday through Sunday they have a Pizza Buffet from 4-8 pm, and there is a salad bar every day. They also have a discounted offering with a large specialty pizza and a pitcher of choice for a great price.
Try them, you’ll be a fan. 🙂
Their buffet is available Friday, Saturday and Sundays from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. $13.99 for adults and $9.99 kids 5 to 10.
Heroes recognizes not only veterans past and present, but also public service workers such as firefighters, police officers and hospital staff. I’m pretty sure they offer a discount. Make sure to ask.
Let’s talk about the food. The hot side has grinder style sandwiches, garlic cheese bread, cinnamon bites, and around six pizzas. There was quite a bit of variety in how the pizzas were dressed. I definitely enjoyed the classics, but I really felt something when I tried the jalapeno chicken pizza. (Heat )
The salad side has a very nice offering of typical toppings, but also a couple that aren’t as common like black olive. Definitely one of my favorite things to put on a salad. There are a couple lettuce options along with quite a few pasta salad, potato salad type choices.
Something I don’t see often that they offered on this side was a carrot raisin salad. It has kind of a poppy seed type dressing to make it all stick together. An interesting texture for sure.
Heroes does have a three-way liquor license, so they can sell beer, wine, and spirits.
The building is decorated nicely. There are memorials on the wall for a fallen K9 officer, a table set up front for pow and mia soldiers, and the big wall that has family and community members hung with pride.
Tim and Lisa have done great work honoring service members while also providing some pretty damn good pizza.
They do have a full menu besides the buffet nights.
Will return soon.
According to the menu, they have a salad bar and pizza buffet on the weekends. The salad bar was available to us, but we didn’t order it. We enjoyed the ambiance of the restaurant. It is decorated in a military theme. We figure it gets pretty busy on weekends with the pizza buffet. This was our first visit, but we’re sure we’ll be back.
We just stopped by in January of 2025 and ordered the 16″ NY pepperoni. I would steer clear of that pizza. We were looking for a low cost option at $10.00 per pizza. Spend the extra money for the premium pizzas. The NY style is so thin I could see light through them. I’ve been to New York City and this version is not close.
