For a weekend lunch, I arrived with mother at 11:30. This time, after the breakfast crowd but before the lunch rush, allowed me to get a table without waiting.

This lunch consisted of the baked sole filet & spinach in cream sauce with rice / 焗菠菜龍利魚飯 ($15.99) and sautéed bitter melon & beef / 涼瓜炒牛肉 ($17.99). Both seemed generously portioned.

The baked dish arrived piping hot. The cream sauce did not seem to oily. It proved savory and satisfying. Mother insisted that the rice was supposed to be fried rice, but I could not remember ever seeing that in the 2 decades of eating at HK style cafes (starting with Garden Cafe on Colima by the HK plaza).

The sauteed bitter melon with beef also impressed. The black beans added funky-savory-salty notes without oversalting the dish. The bitter melon proved strangely addicting. The bitterness, while noticeable, did not seem unpleasant.

KW Cafe in Rowland Heights offers a genuinely amazing Hong Kong-style dining experience. We lucked out getting seated immediately, but quickly saw why as the place filled and a long line formed outside – a testament to its popularity. It’s a bustling, family-friendly spot, so ordering everything at once is a good strategy!

Our HK Style Lemon Tea (hot and cold) was perfectly balanced, and the Cold Dish Cucumber was delightfully spiced. The star, however, was the 3 Meat Options with Rice: the roast duck, stewed duck, and especially the BBQ Roast Pork Belly were all executed flawlessly, offering tender meat and incredible flavor.

Overall, KW Cafe is a must-visit. The food is outstanding, the atmosphere lively, and we’re already planning our return to try the Peking Duck. Highly recommended!

Fried noodles and rice are big plates here. Carb overload for sure. Combining old school BBQ and cafe in one. Prices range wide from $13 for wonton noodle with shrimp in the wonton, to $20+ up dishes are plenty. Presentations were great. Saw many tables ran out of space for placing food so you beware. Milk tea is refilled no question asked. Two large halls and like 4-5 smaller single-dounle large table rooms for parties as needed. Although been opened a few years. Decor is still up to date. Get there before noon on Sundays.

Came on a weekday evening and it was packed with families! The service was fast and food was cooked well!

The pork chop was lightly coated and very crispy and tender. It was well flavored. For the beef rice roll. It was really good. Had a lot of filling. The seafood tofu pot was alright. It had good flavor but was a bit expensive for how much tofu and how little seafood was in there. The tofu was also really dark in color so I’m thinking the oil used to fry it might be really old.

Looking forward to trying other dishes next time!

Three of us went on Thursday night around 6:30pm, it was 90% full.
Ordered 4 dishes, all dishes were in good quantity and tested good.
1. Braised String Bean, $14.99. Tasted good but a little salty, will ask less salty next time.
2. Tofu with Double Mushroom, $17.99. Tasted good. Tofu was crispy outside and very soft inside.
3. Shrimp with Honey Walnut, $21.99. Tasted good, shrimps were crispy outside and were in good size.
4. Dried Scallop with Egg Fried Rice, $16.99. Tasted good but a little salty.

Great Chinese restaurant that offers dishes from exotic banquet styled food to common daily food. I was especially impressed by their Beef Wellington, which had a soft delicious steak that was savory and paired well with the sweet surrounding crust. The spaces are wide and tables are well space. The restaurant atmosphere is really nice and the servers were welcoming. The private party rooms can be reserved in advance with required minimum charges.

Food is really good here compared to other Chinese restaurants in the area. They use high quality ingredients and give you generous portions. The downside is that drink refill service is not very good. I have to get out of my seat and ask the wait staff. For lunch, they only give you 1 refill and it is mostly ice. I think they should remove this restriction and be on par with the surrounding restaurants. Eat, drink, and be merry. As with all Chinese restaurants, it is loud, but everyone enjoying the company and food. I always tip 15% or more…even if I do have to get out of my seat to ask for refills. 🙂 maybe next time, they will refill without my asking.

Had lunch with our brother and sister-in-law at KW Cafe, their usual go-to spot for Cantonese food. We visited on a Saturday noon, and the place was bustling with activity. Despite the crowd, we were seated fairly quickly.

We ordered a variety of classic Cantonese dishes: blanched chicken, chicken casserole, gai lan with dried fish, string beans with minced pork, and salt and pepper pork chop. The portions were on the smaller side, and while the flavors were decent, they leaned a bit salty. The standout dish was definitely the blanched chicken, which had tender meat and a good flavor.

The milk tea was just okay; it didn’t seem like they used the traditional silk stocking method to filter the tea. Parking was convenient with a large parking lot available. Prices were reasonable, especially compared to similar spots in the San Gabriel Valley.

Overall, KW Cafe offers a decent Cantonese dining experience with some hits and misses. The blanched chicken is worth trying, and the reasonable prices make it a good option for a casual meal.
