Food quality / price (value) rating 8.5. The atmosphere is antique diner. Located in the historic Sandy Hook village in Newtown, CT, a charming and beautiful, and walkable, 1800’s village undergoing a renaissance that includes many upgrades. New brick sidewalks and reproduction lamp posts add a lot of charm to the area. There are 6 or 7 good restaurants within a 100 yard radius of the center. We went for breakfast, where I had the pancakes with bacon. The pancakes and bacon were very good, but the bacon wasn’t served until I was already finished with the pancakes. The wife had a broccoli, mushroom & Cheddar omelette which was very good. The coffee was good quality. The men’s restroom was in need of remodeling. There is also an old style 10 seat counter that was very nostalgic.

The food is consistently fantastic, and the service is just as good. We’ve had Jake as our server a few times now, and every time he reminds us why we keep coming back — friendly, attentive, and magically appearing right when the coffee gets low.

And let’s talk about those hash browns. I order them burned. Not “lightly crispy.” I’m talking crispy-with-commitment. They came out EXACTLY how I like them — perfection. The crab cake Benedict? So good I briefly considered not sharing a bite.

Great service, excellent staff, great food, and always worth the trip. Highly recommend!

What a gem! Had an unexpectedly wonderful breakfast there today. Don’t get me wrong, i love a good diner but this was 10/10. It was busy but the waitress kept her cool and we had a relaxed meal.

I used to be a regular. I’ve been coming to this diner almost 40 years. Things were better with the previous owners. Food was always right, and you didn’t watch while people who sat down after you got seen first. And the waiting! In 40 years I’ve never waited so long for my food.

Cute, small diner with an awesome breakfast selection. It has a small, unassuming patio in the back, which was perfect for us as it was a warm sunny day, and we had our dog with us. The food was delicious and hefty portions. The patio could benefit from a trashcan or two, and maybe a option to grab the food or enter the diner from the back instead of having to go around to the front each time.

Has good parking space on the immediate side of the building.

I just moved to Southbury from Queens, NYC and have been driving past this diner and a few other restaurants in this area on my way to work a few times when the GPS reroutes me because 84 is moving slowly. Decided to come here today and give it a shot. It’s never easy going to a new restaurant in a new town after moving from another state so I took a deep breath and walked in.

I immediately noticed the half full bar and almost full dining area, I was told I can sit anywhere I like by a pleasant young lady from behind the counter and chose the bar area and before I could sit one of the patrons there insisted I sit at the stool next to her and her husband I assume. I said thank you and sat where she said I should.

Soon after I looked over the menu one of the young ladies working there approached me with very pleasant energy and a smile and asked me if I was ready to order, I ordered the same thing I ordered at every diner, French toast, 2 eggs over medium and bacon (because they didn’t have links, patties are cool but links are my addiction) so bacon it was. Shortly after she left with my order a second young lady approached me and asked me what I would like to eat, I told her I just placed my order, she said wonderful and whisked away to help someone else. I appreciate that more than I can explain, when you’re new to a place and you don’t look like everyone else you worry sometimes and usually it’s for good reason, I have a Waffle House story to tell you someday, it’s why I worry but I digress, they both checked on me and I appreciated that.

The food came and everything looked great… I put the finishing touches on the masterpiece, butter and syrup on the French toast, salt and pepper on the eggs and that was all she wrote. The over medium eggs were cooked to perfection, the bacon was tender and also crispy, exactly the way I love my bacon, sausage links? What sausage links? And the French Toast was absolutely amazing! I had no complaints about the food, 10 out of 10. I finished my tea and paid my bill after my waitress gave me her tap to pay verbiage, she was fun, I didn’t get a receipt cause I would love to shout her out by name here. I’ll just say she had a cool piercing, she’s a rockstar. Both of the ladies behind the counter were but I really appreciate her service today, she definitely made me feel welcomed and insisted I come back again before I left for the day.

Sandy Hook Diner has a really cozy feel. The staff was super friendly and the service was fast. The food was delicious – I had perfectly cooked French toast, eggs, and bacon. I’d definitely recommend giving this place a try, I am gonna take my own advice and be back soon.

Very unassuming from the outside. Dining room and counter seating. No clue what the dining room looks like, we sat at the counter. Great and friendly service. Inexpensive and good food. Don’t need much more for a quick breakfast spot.

This is indeed a gem!! We stopped by for breakfast on a whim before getting back on the road and at first, I wasn’t sure about this place when I walked in. But there was an open table for my family and the food was REALLY good!! Each member of my family crushed their food.
