We found them on TikTok recently in our search for good donuts since we moved to the area 3 years ago. We have yet to find what we were looking for until we walked into Holt’s this morning. The lady that helped us was quick and super friendly. We got a dozen donuts for very reasonable price. The cinnamon and sugar cake donut hit the spot. They were fresh and delicious! The glazed were fresh and evenly glazed as well. We will definitely be back!!

Living a life with underdeveloped taste buds has to be an awful way to live.
After being gone for nearly a decade, I wanted to check out how what was the best donut place in Kansas City is doing. To my surprise, it looked like maybe there was some downfall to the famous donut shop.
Well, I stopped in anyway and I’m extremely glad I did.
They still have the best donuts in all of the Kansas City area by a LONG shot. I don’t even like cake donuts, but the cake donuts here? Different story. There is no comparison, they have the absolute best cake donuts of anywhere I’ve ever been. 20+ years and 6 different states and not a single donut shop comes remotely close to Holt’s perfection. Well worth the 30 minute drive.

I got up early today on my day off just to go get donuts from Holts. Only to get sold donuts that looked and tasted like they were made yesterday. They were dry and a little hard and crusty. I asked the cashier were the donuts fresh because they looked old like they were made yesterday. She said they were made fresh this morning. Another lady came from the back and with an attitude said everything was made fresh this morning. I went there at 5:45sm and they opened at 5.30am if those donuts were made fresh this morning then there’s no way they would have been dry, crusty, hard, and old looking that fast. When I was driving away I saw the cashier remove the tray of donuts that she sold me and added a whole tray of fresh donuts. I will not be coming back ever again. I used to be a regular customer back in the 90’s back then Holts donuts were fluffy and fresh all the time, but not anymore.

Stopped for the first time today and am glad I did. Excellent donuts! Highly recommend but they sell out fast. I was there at 8:05 am and they only had a few long John’s and some fritters left.

Holt’s Donuts is a fantastic donut dream full of diverse types of deliciously developed delicacies. The place may look a little run down, but I can assure you that that’s because they spend their money on what really matters: making some of, if not, the best donuts I’ve ever had. My personal favorite is the Long John with white cream filling. The chocolate and the cream make a great flavor that pairs perfectly with the fluffy flavorful dough. I would definitely recommend Holt’s Donuts for any donut-related emergencies.

After I repeated my order a number of times and was over charged I realized I was given the wrong donuts. So I tried to go back and get what I ordered and had repeated and was met with attitude and snarky comments. I won’t ever be back. Sad I was so looking forward to this this morning. Sorry not everyone knows what you choose to name your donuts and you are yelling across the store in the back where I can’t see. I offered to being what I DID NOT ORDER back. Never again. Thanks for ruining my morning ($20 for 5 donuts is INSAIN by the way)
ALSO, while I was in the first time both employees were talking crap about a couple that had just left because of “their clothes and smell”. So if you were the couple who came in before 6am know they are talking crap about you to other customers. Even if you are a valued customer, they don’t care. And the donuts are dry. I just live in town but I’ll drive for better donuts and customer service.

If you comb through the high reviews you’ll see lots of praise for service, price, and nostalgia. I’m only here to review the food.
The cake donuts are dry and bready. The glazed donuts have a hint more moisture, but not enough to improve the flavor. The frosted donuts are inedible. They tasted as though a can of Pillsbury frosting had some flavoring extract and coloring added to it. Saccharine with almost no supporting flavor.
The glazed raised donuts are the only thing keeping this review from 1 star. They aren’t anything special, but they have an expected mid level of sweetness.
I recommend driving anywhere else to get a dozen. Even thawed, delivered frozen, gas station or grocery store donuts have a better balance of flavor than these.
