Our server, Dara, was so friendly and knowledgeable of the food. We didnt have wine but they have a nice selection. We took her recommendations on the fried green tomato app and crab cakes were phenomenal. She was spot on. the remoulade for the crab cakes perfection. The freshest ingredients. I had the arugula and beet salad and it was refreshing.
My burger was good and the Brussels sprouts were delicious.
Definitely a place I would come back to. it beat our expectations which our high since my husband is a chef.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Out of This World Crab Cake, Great Hosts, and Wine Knowledge!
48 wine bar and kitchen is truly a hidden gem and an absolute “must-visit” spot. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was fantastic—intimate, stylish, and perfect for a relaxed date night or a sophisticated evening out with friends. It’s a genuinely great spot that hits all the right notes for ambiance and service.
The staff truly elevate the experience; they were great hosts—attentive, welcoming, and made us feel right at home. A special shout-out must be given for their impressive expertise: they were very wine knowledgeable, offering insightful recommendations that perfectly complemented our meal. Their guidance made navigating the extensive wine list enjoyable and rewarding.
However, the culinary highlight was the food, specifically the Crab Cake. I simply have to dedicate a special mention to this dish because it was, without exaggeration, out of this world delicious.
I genuinely cannot remember when I last had a Crab Cake that good—it sets a new standard entirely! It was perfectly seared with a beautiful golden crust, incredibly moist on the inside, and packed full of high-quality, lump crab meat with virtually no filler. The seasoning was spot-on, letting the freshness of the crab shine through. If you visit 48 wine bar and kitchen, do yourself a massive favor and order it.
In short, this wine bar delivers on all fronts: superb food, lovely ambiance, excellent, knowledgeable service, and truly great hosts. We will absolutely be back! Highly recommended!

We recently hosted a group dinner here with guests flying in from all over the country, and the entire experience exceeded expectations.

From the planning stage to the final toast, everything was handled beautifully. I worked closely with Joy, who was incredibly helpful, responsive, and thoughtful throughout the process. She provided excellent recommendations and even allowed us to incorporate our company logo onto a customized prix fixe menu, which made the evening feel extra special and elevated.

The food was outstanding—beautifully presented and full of flavor. Our guests especially raved about the crab cakes, calling them some of the best they’ve ever had. The team was also exceptionally accommodating with dietary needs, including thoughtfully preparing options for our vegan guest, who shared how rare and appreciated that level of care was.

The private dining space was perfect for our group, and the service throughout the evening was warm, attentive, and seamless.

I would highly recommend this restaurant for both intimate gatherings and larger group celebrations. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience.

We recently held a private event, a rehearsal dinner and welcome party, at the FortyEight Wine Bar. Both met 150% of our expectations. Food and service were excellent. Joy was a pleasure to work with planning both events. I can’t say enough about the wait staff. They were very friendly and insured everything was perfect. All of our guests told us how much they enjoyed the food and beverage.

Quaint, super designed interior with wine stations that you can use a card like a vending machine. Cool concept. Food is solid and the meats very tender. The pimento Burger and garlic with bacon jelly is fantastic. Hometown goodness in Freshfields. Artichoke Dip with fresh bread crackers and veggies a must.

Our waiter Preston could have read a phone book and we would have given this restaurant 6 stars. Our friends were swooning.
He came through with $3 scallops and great wine advice. The concept of the wine bar is genius and we would never get that in PA.

We hope to be back soon, and will only accept Preston as our waiter!

We come to Kiawah every year for 6 to 8 weeks. 48 wine never disappoints! The wine is fabulous! The food is absolutely delicious! But more than anything, the service is simply over the top. We love our waitress Dara, who really helped us understand our options, the menu, and never stopped offering additional help and assistance as we navigated our first evening back in Kiawah. A+ Thanksgiving Dara for a wonderful evening Oh …and I love their music selection

We’ve eaten here nearly every trip to kiawah since it has been open. Maybe it was the choices we made this time but I was not nearly as impressed with the food as I was in prior years. Three dry teeny scallops on the appetizer for the price was not a good choice and the spring rolls were burnt. (I don’t know why but I thought they’d come in a rice wrapper and you’d actually see some shrimp. ) the short rib on our flatbread was fatty. After not choosing well we just decided to stop and move on for the evening versus moving on to entrees.
