Service – we arrived around 6:30pm and there was a sign at the front “wait for hostess to be seated”. A waitress saw us waiting but said nothing. I assume the hostess was the bartender because after about five minutes of waiting she said to sit wherever we want. We walked in and another waitress told us to wait for the bartender aka hostess to be seated. I informed her she told us to sit wherever we wanted. She was shocked and said she wants to make sure our table is clean first. So we picked a clean table inside. She gave us menus and went to get a kids menu and crayons. Came back late for orders of water and a virgin frozen strawberry daiquiri. Another party left an outside table so we asked if we could move there, waitress said yes but she wants to clean it first. She disappeared and never came back. So we moved and decided to just wait. Still no one came. At this point it had been over twenty minutes.
We asked another waitress if she could help us and she was visibly upset that we were at a dirty table. After she cleaned it we still didn’t have anyone to take our order.
While waiting (after 7pm) another waitress (the supervisor) seated another group, took their order, and got their food immediately. Mind you, we’re still waiting for our food.
Food:
Virgin frozen strawberry daiquiri was more like a smoothie and had a very bad aftertaste.
Bar drink- was just ok. Something with peach flavor.
Mahi tacos with Cajun fries. Very bland mahi.
Fries were not Cajun which cost extra.
Crab cake sandwich with lettuce and tomato with a side of watermelon. Crab cake was over fried but decent. Bread was soggy. Very little sauce.
18 naked wings with fries, hush puppies, and slaw. While the wings were naked they didn’t have any flavor. My child doesn’t like sauce but wings normally have a good flavor when only breaded. Fries were soggy. Never received hush puppies nor slaw even after we requested and were told twice they were being cooked and brought out.
Supervisor brought out our ticket so I brought up the issues. She was nice and the other waitress came out to apologize. They made it right which is great.
Supervisor stated they were supposed to be closed and they probably thought we were with the 7pm party but l disagree. The waitresses knew we were there and not with the party. She also said the party was last minute and things are normally better.
Final thoughts – the view is great and close by where we are staying. Wasn’t super impressed with the service nor the food and drinks.
I would have loved to offer this critique privately to the manager first, but they have removed the messaging option from their social media.
The fried shrimp is good and their burgers are wonderful. The Diablo Burger is especially good and not as spicy as the name implies. And if it is too hot for you, remove some of the pickled Jalapenos.
The fries are shoestring, the Cole slaw on the sweet side, and the cucumber salad is a good choice with onions in a vinaigrette, though ours needed salt. The hush puppies are small and probably from a bag out of the freezer, but they were flavorful, crisp, and not oily.
And for the real reason we all go here, the bar! Fantastic Ocean and pier views with indoor and outdoor seating, they have a great selection of liquor and a decent menu of frozen and regular drinks. Instead tiny servings, they serve 12 or 16 oz cups with prices ranging from $10 to $12 and $14 for the frozen drinks. Beers are $4, they have wine, Amaretto, and Crown Royal, among other top shelf brands. If you are lucky, Hannah will be your professional bartender. One of the best spots on the beach.
