This situation took place on October 7, 2025. I was going to Cynthia’s Bakery to buy a birthday cake for my sister whose birthday was on October 8. Me and my mom would usually buy cakes from this bakery regularly and there wouldn’t be a problem.
Yesterday, when I went to the bakery I bought a tees leches cake with fruits on top. I asked the cashier if she could write Happy 15 yrs (name) on the birthday cake and she said she can. She took the cake to the back and came back with it. She showed me and I told her it was good. Then she closed the box and left the cake sideways although I thought it was no big deal. I paid right after and my total was $48.28.
I left the bakery, went to my car, placed the cake on top of the car seat where it was not slanted since my car is small and would not fit in the floor and went straight to my aunts house. Once I stepped in, my aunt and her sister in law who was a high school student wanted to see the cake.
I tried opening the cake box but the cake was a lil hard for us to open. Once my aunt opened it, the cake was slanted, icing was all mixed up and the fruits were disorganized. Mind you, there was liquid coming out of the box once I got carried the cake. I understood why it was since it is a tres leches cake but I didn’t understand how the cake was messed up.
We tried calling them and they said they could not understand English which was not a bother for me.
Me and my aunts sister in law drove back right away and had a talk with the cashier and others. We asked if we could get a refund or a new cake since I did pay almost $50 for the cake. They didn’t understand and called their manager on the phone since he was not present at the store. We tried talking to him kindly and asking for a refund or a new cake and instead of cooperating, he started threatening us.
He said he has security cameras on us, he’ll call the police, he’ll call his lawyer since he couldn’t do a refund or a cake exchange. We were honestly upset about it and started talking to him back saying how we will call the police if you want it that way.
Then I called my mom, explained to her about the situation that the manager started and she was mad. We stayed there for almost two hours and within that two hours, the manager showed up while I was on the phone with my mom again.
We believed the ladies in the front thought we were calling the police and called their manager about it. I can understand Spanish as well as my aunts sister in law since we did take the language for years.
The manager then came to the store and showed us a security photo showing the cake being perfect after they wrote happy birthday. He showed me a photo but not the video so I was icky about it. He thought we were suspicious since we wrapped the box with a plastic bag. Once again, we did that cause the milk was leaking all over me and the seat.
He started accusing us of destroying the cake, called his lawyer and spoke in Spanish. I called my bank since he was not cooperating. I called them and asked them to dispute the transaction and explained the situation to them.
My sister in law let the manager know and he got really mad and asked me to take out my ID so he can take a picture and send it to his lawyer. I said sure but I wasn’t legally giving him my ID since I have the right to refuse. I then called my mom, she was about to call her lawyer about this and told him to make sure I tell him that.
Mind you, I am good friends with his bsf sister. I tried explaining to him that I am a high school student, I am a minor & I am the same AGE as his friend’s sister. But he refused to hear me a threatened me.
After we told him about the bank, we waited a bit more and he printed out the receipt for the cake I bought and said he didn’t need the ID anymore and will show this to his lawyer and his lawyer will call MY bank to not dispute the transaction. I told him he can sure do that when he can’t.
We then left without the cake, & I went ahead and had a conversation with my friend about this situation. Don’t recommend this place at all.

I spent over $57 at this restaurant, and the lack of basic courtesy and customer service was disappointing. After ordering a full entrée that included steak and rice, I politely asked for a second plastic fork — not an unreasonable request considering the type of meal and the amount spent.
Instead, I was told, without tact or flexibility, that the policy is “one utensil per plate.” I was then handed a spoon — an impractical choice for the meal I had just purchased.
What made the experience more unsettling was the demeanor of the staff member at the front counter. She looked me up and down and delivered her response with a visible attitude and dismissiveness. It wasn’t simply about following policy — it was about how that policy was communicated, and how I, as a paying customer, was regarded.
This situation isn’t about a fork. It’s about professionalism, respect, and common sense. If a customer spends nearly $60 in your establishment, the bare minimum expectation is to be treated with dignity and flexibility, especially when the request is as small and reasonable as an extra plastic utensil.
There are many restaurants where customer service still matters — and I would encourage anyone who values respectful treatment and thoughtful service to take their business there instead.
