The thin crust still had a good chew to it and the variety of toppings to choose from allows one to customize your pizza or you can pick from a number of their signature pizzas.
We opted to make our own unique combination of extra sauce, meatball, sausage, ham, and fresh garlic.
It’s a very open area and we watched the pizza dough flying high and spinning as we waited for our own to be brought out.
Very cool decor includes some old pictures of the origins of the Brooklyn Pizza place from under the bridge there in New York.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Positive Review!
We’ve been in the area now for a little over 2 months, and we’ve been wanting to try it out. But with three little kids we were hesitant since we didn’t see that they offered a kids menu So today we finally decided to just give it a try. And I am so happy we did! We had nothing but a fantastic experience with our server Ally (not sure of the spelling). But she was absolutely so sweet to our kids. After we had already placed our drink order, our daughter mentioned how she saw that they have chocolate milk.. next thing you know our server Ally surprised her with a cup of chocolate milk! We ended up signing up for their rewards before ordering and received a free appetizer (we chose the Antipasto). We all really enjoyed it, the kids ended up eating the salami (so their salami is kid approved ). For our pizzas, we chose for the kids to share a 16” pepperoni with white garlic sauce (which is phenomenal)! And my husband and I ordered the Brooklyn Bridge with the traditional red sauce. I do have to say, I personally preferred their garlic sauce over their red sauce. But that’s mainly because the garlic sauce was seriously delicious. We decided to give their cannolis a try, I enjoyed the traditional one while everyone else preferred the chocolate cannoli. And another awesome experience before our food came out, was Ally asked if the kids could have “kids pizza dough” and she brought out small triangles of dough for the kids to play with.. which was a huge hit and kept them all occupied while waiting for our food. At the end we were about to leave and our two year old got sad his dough fell on the floor. So Ally and the manager made sure to give him his very own (along with a few extra pieces) in to go boxes and gave him his own little bag to carry it out. Seriously, we were very impressed with how family oriented Grimaldi’s was.
They aren’t just amazing to their customers though. As a dasher, they also went above and beyond for my order, and kept things professional and courteous.
If you’re thinking about having a night out, I highly reccomend this location to anyone looking to eat good food along with some good vibes.
Our evening started off exciting. My wife ordered pizza to be delivered so it would arrive right when I got home from work for a mid-week date night. The tracker showed a delay, likely from the snow that rolled in, so I went out to shovel. Thirty minutes later I came back in and the order had been pushed back another thirty minutes.
With the weather and already an hour delay, I told my wife I would call the restaurant and pick it up myself. I called and asked if they could remake it fresh and I would come in. They agreed. I even told them to keep the delivery fee and tip for their staff. After I finished clearing my truck my wife called me back. The restaurant had called her and said they actually couldn’t do what they told me, they had to cancel the order, and we would get our refund in three to five days. They claimed this was because she used a third party app. It was their website. Make that make sense.
I wasn’t happy, but my wife was excited to try this place, so I drove in anyway. They charged $47 for a large pizza and bruschetta. The bruschetta was literally bread and a tiny cup of diced tomatoes. I asked for the manager and she explained how I almost got a free pizza, but somehow didn’t, and how they didn’t have a delivery driver for the order sitting on the rack behind her. She also said they don’t have drivers and can’t find any. I asked for a discount for the trouble, the drive, and the refund delay. She offered something that sounded fair. Or so I thought.
When I got home I realized the tag on the bruschetta had our original receipt price and matched exactly what I paid after my so called discount. My wife told me they offer a free starter online. They charged me for that free starter and then removed it to make it look like a discount. Nothing was actually discounted. After everything we went through, the total was basically the same as if the order had been delivered.
Then we finally sat down to eat. The pizza was cold and terrible. If you like razor thin pizza with barely any meat, this is your spot. The entire box was covered in a pile of arugula that made it even worse. Like so much you couldn’t even tell it was a pizza. Date night turned into eating late, cold, disappointing pizza and joking about who got the slice with the most meat because there was so little on it. The bruschetta was bread with a few tomatoes spread thin enough that you might get one cube per bite. Our family recommended this place and said it was a must eat in Ankeny. I have no idea how. The hot honey was the only thing they got right, it was hot, and honey.
I gave this place one star because zero wasn’t an option. If I am ever hungry and near this place again, I would dig in the trash can out front before eating here.
They have a nice selection of drinks too, many wines and beers.
One of my favorite pizza restaurants around.
