I don’t remember who recommended Carnell’s, but good looking out!
I came for the hamburger and was not disappointed.
The first positive sign was its down home, rustic feel. There’s a window at the front of the building you can walk up to and place your order. They give you a buzzer to let you know when your order is ready.
As I waited, I saw the tell-tale sign—their hot sauce. My wife and I judge a restaurant by the hot sauce they offer and the Louisiana Dot?! Yessir.
I ordered a double cheeseburger and fries. And for some reason even I don’t understand, I ordered a side of hush puppies. Look. We listen. We don’t judge.
The fries look sad because they were—probably some that had already been cooked and sitting under a lamp somewhere. The hush puppies were also depressed. They were mealy—almost the consistency of dressing, like they hadn’t been cooked all the way through.
But, the burger?
It was made to order and that’s what I came for. It ranks in my top three of all time, anywhere. And I don’t even like cheese!
It possibly ties for second, except the other was a gourmet burger—this however, is a good ol’ down home burger, like the one your Momma used to make in a skillet and put it on white bread back when they made burgers from real cows.
It’s the type of burger that you could only get from a place like this. It’s worth every second of the thirty minute drive.
10/10 recommend.

The best thing about Carnell’s is the vibe & cabbage rolls. it’s a small hidden spot with a nice look and friendly service. My buddies and I went to check it out after hearing good things.Service was solid and everyone was friendly, but the food was just okay. I ordered an order of wings to go — the BBQ wings tasted like a regular barbecue sauce, nothing too special. My friend had a burger, and he said it was just alright, nothing that really stood out.Overall, Carnell’s has great service and a nice atmosphere, but the food didn’t quite live up to the hype.

We love finding locally owned places to eat when we travel. When I saw Carnell’s on Google, I knew that’s where we had to eat. The food was great! They were busy and had to wait for a little bit, but not too long. It was well worth the wait! The cheese sticks were awesome! The shrimp (large butterfly) plate was great, too. We will definitely hit this place up again, if we are traveling through. We highly recommend Cornell’s!!!

It takes a while for you to get your food, but it is delicious if you order something that you want. For instance, I showed them a picture of what they had available. And it was fish, French fries, and a hush puppy platter. And then I asked them for a side of onion rings. They didn’t give me the fries.They switched Fries
For the union rings, but I wanted both. I asked them for an extra tartar when they handed me my plate and she got attitude and said it’s 25 cents.So I said I will pay for that Just to turn around and tell me oh don’t worry about it. So service wise, Mississippi doesn’t understand proper customer service. By no means nowhere that i’ve went has great customer service.

Stopped in on the way back home from Starkville, and I’m definitely glad we did! The service was great. Catfish was excellent, and I loved the cabbage rolls!!

I will absolutely be back to Carmelo’s soon! Wonderful service and yummy food. The wings were pretty solid. Honey Gold was and the Crowson Fire will light you up.
