The cole slaw is one of the best I have tried! The lunch special is good. The chicken was tender and fresh and the rice was perfectly cooked and tasty. The place is clean and the service is very good. One thing that I like is that if you eat at the restaurant the plates and silverware they put on the table are not disposable, which is trully eco-friendly. My husband and I have stopped going to bigger restaurants in the area because they serve everything in disposable stuff. Also, Lakeside BBQ’s menu has ethnic dishes and desserts, including tres leches cake and empanadas… will be trying those next.

Very disappointed that this BBQ place didn’t work out. If you amount of food that we received for the amount that we paid, it was a bit pricey.

The quality of the steak in the salad we ordered was good, but there was barely any lettuce with it.

The flan that we ordered had a weird texture and almost reminded us of mac and cheese instead of dessert.

Overall it seems like a lot of the food is mass produced, rather than being homemade.

The portions are just so little for the price you pay. they give you very little rice and beans which is crazy sibce that is not expensive at all. The food taste good but i can go to another Portuguese bbq place and get three times as much food for less. Backyad grill in kenilworth have large portions great food. if they gave larger portions heck just serve more rice and beans and i would give them a better review. I hope they catch on, its a shame.

Having grown up in the Newark area,I suppose I’m spoiled by amazing, authentic Portuguese cuisine.Tried the food here twice. Portions are on the small side for what it’s priced at.Food is kind of bland. Coleslaw was the best part of my steak/chicken combo. They seemed to have bulked out the meal with french fries on my second visit. Had the beans the first time and compare it to what I would imagine Alpo would taste like. They recently expanded the menu.Perhaps I’ll give it one last try.

Wish ai could say it was great but it was Very Disappointing!
The 1/4 BBQ chicken lunch combo was horrible. The chicken (looked more like a Quail. It was tiny) and had all small bones and no meat. The rice was undercooked and hard, had no taste. Definitely not worth the ‘$9.75 price.

2ND Time ordering and LOVED it! This is Portuguese barbeque so don’t think your going in there for ribs covered in sauce. This place is definitely authentic Portuguese and its definitely amazing food! the corn bread was warm and delicious, the ribs don’t even need sauce and the tomato cuke salad was fresh. I ordered this as a catering and everyone loved it. Thank you!

The place was nice and clean. The service was very professional and kind. I’m glad to have found this place that is so close to my house. As others mentioned, it’s not like Newark BBQ because they do not put the hot sauce on the meat which is better for my kids. They do offer hot sauce and bbq sauce on the side. The fries were very good. I’ll definitely go back. It’s nice to have a home cooked meal instead of the other options we have around.

We give it a try 4 times before write a review. We went the day of the opening around 4pm we order full steak ribs and whole chicken. They bring the food to the table wrong 3 times. The last time the food was finally right the full order of steak ribs had 3 tiny pieces of ribs cut in pieces to make it seem bigger. The ribs was tinner than a chicken breast. I go to bbq places and ribs are 3 times this size. It look like they cut 1 whole rib in 3 pieces and they charge me $22 I believe for those 3 pieces without the bone was not even a 7 oz steak.
The rice was cold and the beans had no flavor.

2nd day we order garlic chicken with rice and tostones. They bring me chicken breast I wish your menu would stated that garlic chicken was chicken breast with garlic salt. That chicken was nasty but we ate it anyway kids where hungry. Again beans had no flavor 20 min later we left because my toddler vomit the chicken but later on we all end up with diahrrea.

3rd day pork ribs with rice and maduros, was the only day the food was good, didn’t mess up the order so all good.

4th day we decided to go again since they did good the last one we order a whole chicken with rice and fries to go. The chicken was raw when we start eating at home and it taste like the shoprite chicken you get for $5 dollars not sure what they did but that chicken was weird. Fries where old and hard. I end up cooking the chicken longer at home, we order when they where about to close so we couldn’t call back we eat it after was otally cook and when bad on all of us all 3 kids up until 5 am due to diahrrea and stomach pain.

Sorry to many opportunities I loved their staff and the front kids that take your order they are very welcoming but if the staff is good but the food is not good you won’t come back have to be both good. Everyone is so nice but sorry you need to find a better experience cook and kitchen staff. Hopefully you guys get better because we loved the concept.

Good luck

We ordered the ribs and chicken family combo. The food was delicious and there was enough to feed at least 6 people if not more. The price was more than fair for the amount of food we got.
We’ll definitely be back.

I agree with Sandra Cruz! Very, very disappointing since I am also Portuguese and grew up in the Ironbound section of Newark. I was so excited for this place so that I would not have to go to Newark or Kearny but I guess I will have to or make it myself. I would have been okay with the black beans if they didn’t come straight from can to table. I suggest sauteeing some onions with olive oil and fresh garlic, add some Rotel and simmer the beans in them – makes for a great side. We went when they first opened. Ordered a whole chicken and whole short rib combo and got the half size. Did not realize it until we got home but did not go back to let them no – too upset and insulted to do that. Also, bought empanadas, worst I ever had. Sorry Lakeside BBQ – hope you up your game because we are not going back unless another Pork Chop like me says you got it right.
