That Chubby Dude
An old school family owned and operated pizza place. Very good pizza, nice and crispy. Not the best selection for house pies but what they’ve got is good! Cash only place, so make sure you’ve got a few bucks in your pocket before you go in. Only bad thing to say is they don’t have A/C, and on a hot 90 degree day in Saratoga you want to enjoy your hot slice in a cool place.

Not the SAME at all! The ingredients are cheap they are skimpy with everything the pizza tastes old and the cheese is awful! I miss the old Popes when they were on Broadway.

My favorite pizzeria. As I child I came in with my grandma every Friday. I remember coloring on the backs of the big piece of paper with the businesses on it. I remember learning the names of the people there and learning how to cut my food on my own. Every week pope’s pizza was my dinner Friday night, and my breakfast Saturday morning. I remember the crispy crunch and the browned cheese on top, perfectly cooked. I always took any leftover crusts my grandma didn’t want. After I moved these Friday dinners stoped, but my love for this pizzeria didn’t. Any time I visit I make sure to pick up 2 slices (one for then and one for another meal). Every time I eat a slice I remember all the joys and community I felt there. Even if I didn’t have these memories I would still recommend this place. Their slices or full pizzas are affordable, the atmosphere is warm and welcoming and the service is always excellent. 10/10!

An end of an era. I am so sad to write this. We have been ordering from Pope’s for the last 17 years. Tonight I ordered a small buffalo chicken and a large pepperoni. They were basically the same size. Both small.
The buffalo chicken pizza was inedible. So incredibly spicy none of us could eat it. I had even looked up pictures from previous customers to see what it looked like and ours didnt resemble it. It was like the marinara was replaced with hot sauce. The pepperoni pizza was tough, smushed so it wasn’t a circle and the sauce was not good.
I called to mention it and got a little attitude from the order taker. She said a new person was in training. I understand that will happen – but wouldn’t there be a little quality control to make sure what was leaving the restaurant was correct? She offered to put me on with the manager (wasn’t my idea) and when the manager picked up I could hear the order girl complaining in the background. The manager got on and said the same thing and offered a discount when I come back.
Unfortunately, it was so unappealing in taste, looks and how it was handled – we wont be back.

My experience with this pizzeria has been as warm and kind (kindness is delicious, right? It makes us all smile!) as timeless, classic pizza is – the people here are kind and compassionate, and I just know you can taste it in their food. Everybody knows the greatest pizzas are made with love, and that it’s worth the price. Don’t fall for the bad service reviews – people are allowed to have difficult days, and it isn’t a reflection of you personally unless you’re a deliberately rude, entitled, arrogant or demanding individual who lacks self-awareness and accountability – it’s a reflection of their own struggle. You should try this pizza, because it’s made by good, honest, hardworking people who care about themselves and their loved ones – and by extension through art and hard work of their craft – you. The overall reviews don’t lie. Try this place!!

Best pep and cheese I’ve had! Saw this place on the Dave Portnoy app, and it did not disappoint!

The pizza might have been good. Except it was cold and that pretty much compromised the flavor. Crust did have a nice crispness, but overall, the pizza was bland and cold. The waitress was very nice and the restaurant has a nice old school Pizzaria/ Italian restaurant look. It’s a shame the pizza was cold.

Nice surprise to see when they sell you “small pizzas” it comes in extra large boxes! The food was excellent.

Nostalgia brought us into the restaurant, but everything else drove us out. Memories of fantastic pizza from the 80’s and 90’s prompted us to drop in while visiting family. The pizza by the slice was not reheated, but instead hand out cold. The calzones we ordered were over filled with ricotta and other requested fillings were neglected. No balance as to the construction. The place appeared to be run by a single person with some assistance from her daughter. Additional young children were present and it felt more like a make shift daycare instead of a restaurant.
In short, this place is struggling. It is managed poorly. We left our food only partially eaten and I would not recommend it at all. Unless significant changes are made immediately, there is little chance it will survive.

Absolutely hands down the best pizza around!
We were looking for a light snack before heading to a concert at SPAC and 3 of us shared a small pie. The pizza here is amazing. If you like more cheese though, definitely order it with extra cheese. I love their sauce too; a little sweet and not as “herby” as some places. Perfect crust too.
Highly recommend if you are in the area and looking for some great NY style pizza.
