I had the bun bo hue, friend had the house special, we shared a spring roll.
Service: they didn’t hurry me out the door, I believe they were closing before I finished my food, which was nice. The older lady when taking orders constantly look everywhere, I don’t even know if she took my order or not. To reassure myself, I repeated myself and she kept nodding her head.
Food: it’s below average. I’m fine with MSG, but this wa heavy MSG, I was parched till the next day. The spring roll, it’s different and not my cup of tea, it was mainly taro or something starchy.
Price: 3 items $50 sth + tax + tip. I think that’s quite pricey for mediocrity. The bowl was quite large, it’ll keep you full.
Environment: basic mom and pop shop, quite spacious.
The restaurant is small but well-organised so there are plenty of tables. Foods were amazing. I had the steam rice with grilled pork and fried egg and it was amazing. The fish sauce dressing was so good too.
There were parking spots on the street.
The restaurant owner is so welcoming and making sure that we had a good experience there. 6 stars for customer service.
I would definitely come back once I’m on the island.
And as soon as I finish my bowl and put down my chopsticks for real, the waitress, again. was already beside our table with our bill and the machine ready.
At the end, we didn’t pay any tips. Food was good. But it’s not THAT good to not consider customer service. There are other options in Victoria for sure. And I’ve had better pho than this one. This is definitely a disappointment. This is our first time experiencing this type of service in Victoria. As an asian myself, for a moment, I thought I was back in Asia. (laugh)
All the soups are good options- you can’t go wrong with the pho. I have been to this place a few times and liked their vermicelli bowls too! Definitely some of the best compared to others.
The family that owns the restaurant are from Vietnam and are extremely friendly. Felt like home and a the service was great. Would recommend anyone to check it out!

What we ordered:
22. Pho chin, bo vien: brisket and meatballs. Always a great choice.
16. Bun bo hue: spicy noodle soup with meat, noodles, lemon grass and spicy. Good option if you want to try other soups other than pho.
The service was unacceptable, and I ultimately did not eat there. Based on what I experienced, I cannot recommend this restaurant. I strongly felt my order was delayed or ignored because I am Black, while most of the other customers were Asian or Caucasian.
I was in Victoria for one week for work, and this experience negatively affected the rest of my stay. I also lost my lunch break: I had a limited window to eat, but after waiting over half an hour, I had to leave and walk back to my workplace without having time to eat anything. I felt refused service and disrespected.
