Hilltop Grill offers an eclectic variety of events and menu items. Good food just isn’t one of them.
After my whirlwind trip to Florida for spring break, one of the first things I did when I returned was visit the Hilltop Grill. Like many things, I’ve drove by this place many times and since I was still on vacation, a friend and I decided to stop in for a post-vacation lunch.
Neither of us had heard much about the Hilltop, so our expectations were neutral. Walking in, we instantly liked the layout. It was all wooden and felt like a nice place to get food and/or beer on a weekday night. The menu wasn’t outstanding but it seemed to offer your usual restaurant items. Burgers, fries, appetizers and other things.
I feel like I ordered a burger and fry and my friend ordered something similar. While I don’t quite recall exactly what I ordered, I do remember being severely disappointed in what was served. My friend was almost equally disappointed in the meal they received. The food was bland and the service was alright. We were the only ones in there and even then, the service from the waitress wasn’t great.
In all the times I’ve driven by since visiting, they do seem to host some unique events. I’ve seen them host wrestling matches in their parking lot. I’ve seen midget wrestling (if memory serves me right). I’ve seen car shows. I’ve seen a military memorial service there. I believe they also have live music sometimes as well.
It sucks to write a bad review. It never feels good to speak negatives about a place. That is why I always put this disclaimer in here. Just because I had a bad experience doesn’t mean the place is terrible. I’ve been to places where one time the service is great and the next time it isn’t. It has been 7 years since I’ve been here and they are still in business. So that must speak volumes for the place being popular. Go there and see for yourself. If you don’t like it, you are probably only out $10-$20 and you’ll have a story to tell.
Got some fries. That tasted poorly.
The staff here are rude. They dont seem to like new people, almost like they dont want you here and they stare at you the entire time you are there.
Everyone here has a major attitude. ESPECIALLY the old lady, I’m assuming owner or wife. Which makes it worse….
The bathrooms were disgusting and my wife could not latch her stall door closed. While an employee sat on her phone in the bathroom. No privacy.
Won’t be coming back here again.
A little difficult to spot the entrances in the dark, but there’s one in the middle of each long side. Nothing fancy inside and the floor is painted concrete, so it’s a bit cool in cold weather, but it should be nice in the summer. Screened in outside dining for warmer weather, too.
Worth a visit.
When ordering the crinkle cut fries the system made me choose a sauce. I got the sauce, but no fries. The main reason I went with a more expensive place was because I LOVE crinkle fries!!!!
I ordered a tenderloin with pickle and onion on the side and I got them on the side, but there were also pickles and onions on the tenderloin. Of course they were now cooked and went to the garbage. I don’t know where they keep their onions, but they were NASTY. I cannot even come up with a way to describe the flavor ….. almost like that nasty kitchen grease smell you get when kitchens are not cleaned frequently.
The tenderloin had very little flavor, was hard and chewy on one end and was tiny for the cost.
