Super quaint place. Food was pretty good but we had the sandwiches and there were a little under seasoned. Mac & cheese is legit and the appetizer meatballs are phenomenal. Got there at 11 o’clock on Valentine’s Day and the server was really good. We will definitely be back next time we are in town to try more of the menu. Seems like it would be a blast at night. Wish google had 4.5 stars bc that’s what it was.

We went to The Coal Bunker restaurant yesterday after our hike, and we were so surprised by how nice it was inside! The ambiance was cozy and welcoming, and the staff were all super friendly and attentive.
The sandwich I got was amazing…the bread was just perfect. My husband ordered a sandwich too and absolutely loved it. But the real winner was the mac and cheese! My daughter couldn’t get enough of it. She even asked for seconds and said, “This restaurant is in my top 5! Their mac and cheese is a 9.5 out of 10!”
Overall, we loved everything and had such a great time. We’re definitely coming back!☺️

We have always enjoyed this place, however it was very disappointing today.
Tried to order four different beers from their very long list of canned options, and they were out of all 4 of them. Then I ordered their mac and cheese, and it was delivered in a cast iron dish that was room temperature / cool to the touch.
The mac and cheese itself surely never saw any kind of an oven or a salamander to have any kind of browning on it.
Sent it back, and it took so long to have it warmed up my wife finished her meal. So here’s a picture of my dinner.
The server was very accommodating and friendly.

Great relaxed atmosphere, cozy, good local beers, and the food is amazing. The Tri-tip bowl was incredible, well seasoned and the mix of flavors was delectable. By far one of the best meals I had on my visit.
The bread pudding was delicious and firmer than traditional bread pudding, since it’s made with cinnamon rolls.
My water glass never went empty and the server was friendly and informed.

Coalbunker is wonderful. Scratch-made deliciousness with great beverage (alcoholic and non alc) options. The chef team puts great care into their food – you won’t be disappointed with any items on the menu. I appreciate their scratch made ingredients and no seed oils. Also, they really support the community so it’s a win-win! The restaurant is in a cool historic building in downtown Fallbrook with cool train history too, so it’s a great vibe. Plus they have a great kids menu. Whether you live in fallbrook or are just passing thru, coalBunker won’t disappoint.

Coal Bunker is always a go to when needing someone else to cook. The food and service is so consistent. The food is ridiculously good. You can play menu Roulette (close your eyes and randomly point to an item) and it will be the most delicious thing imagineable. The scratch made cooking is what sets this establishment apart. Everything taste so fresh. I cannot say enough good things about this place. It’s perfect for a quick bite, long conversation with a few drinks or just to order and take home when you need a quiet night. They also give back to the community. I often see the owners hanging out around the baseball fields running the snack bars and that makes me really happy.

If you check Google and see they are closed CHECK THE HOURS OF OPERATION before moving on to another spot. We saw they open at 4pm and we just happened to be in the area and the timing worked out well. Anyways, it’s a really cool spot! Very different vibe than most places, but cool! The food we ordered was good too! I got the bunker burger with mac. The loaded potato skins were great too! Friendly service. It’s a Monday as I write this and we were here right at 4pm, but this place definitely deserves more people knowing about it and being here based on our experience. If you read this far, you think too much, just go to the Coal Bunker already!
