I recently did a branding shoot for The Traveler and got to see a wide variety of the food they offer. I got to try some and it was *delicious* (the fried tomatoes are way better than you are expecting). The staff was also really kind and seemed to have great energy. The customers were also all really nice to me, which isn’t always the case and I think that says a lot about the overall atmosphere of a restaurant. Definitely going to come back on my own time!

I purchased my parents a gift certificate at Christmas time for this restaurant because they absolutely love the food and the atmosphere of this place. Today I discovered that my dad has inadvertently lost or misplaced the gift certificate so I decided to go in to the restaurant to see if they possibly had any record of it. The girl at the counter was extremely friendly and she went to the back and she brought Eric out front. He was extremely friendly and helpful. I showed him on my bank account where I had purchased it and asked if they had any record of it. He kind of laughed and said we don’t do that here in Travelers Rest we go on handshakes. He was kind enough to reissue me another gift certificate, and I was very pleased and I know my parents will be as well. Excellent people here excellent customer service. I have eaten here numerous times and the food is just as good. Definitely stop in and check this place out. Small town living at its best!!!

I could easily sum up the value and quality with one word…MMMMM! Just tried this place. First time. I got the salmon patties and mashed taders with gravy. I was gonna take a picture but I tore it up! Mashed taders are not instant, they are real. Awesome! Salmon patties are good size. And they were great too. Now when I’m hungry, I’m going there. No one in town can compare to this home cooking. If you haven’t ate there… go! Well worth it! Thanks y’all for the best meal I’ve had in a long time.

This is THE establishment of the upstate. I grew up eating here 20 years ago as a kid, and remembered having the best burgers. I stopped by again today, it’s even better than I remember as a kid. The breakfast is amazing, amazing burgers, if you haven’t been here before you’re missing out!!

This was the worst meal I’ve had in a long time .Everything cold and tough ! Waitress seemed aggravated and rushed ! When the manager came out to talk to me ,she said everything is cooked at 8am and left on a steam plate untill Lunch .

To be fair, the food is decent. The service is absolute trash. I ordered a to go order, and as soon as I walked in, the troll at the register accosted me and said “are you door dash I already kicked them out”
and it went downhill from there. I sat there waiting for my food while four different groups came in and left because they could not get seated. Go to Hungry Drover.

Don’t be fooled by the name — this is not the Traveler it used to be. As an 11th generation upstate
Greenville SC resident. I loved this place when it was family-owned and served true home-cooked meals, but that’s all gone now. The food tastes like frozen, microwaved dinners with no flavor or quality. I ordered the tried and true country style steak, (my all time favorite) which used to be tender and melt in your mouth, but this time it seemed like a frozen patty just reheated — so tough I couldn’t even chew it. The rest of the meal wasn’t any better, bland and disappointing across the board. It may still carry the name The Traveler, but the heart and soul of the restaurant are gone. The new owners (Stax) had better wise up, and up their game before this icon is gone.
A good example to follow would be fellow TR restaurant, The Whistle Stop. Before the grand daughter purchased “American Restaurant” and turned it into The Whistle Stop. She enlisted the help of 40 year cook Mrs. Henderson (RIP) for recipe assistance.

I struggle to see any type home roots here. Between the instant over salted microwaved food , the slow service & the drama ! Im at a loss for words. I was there this past Sunday & what seemed to be a wanna be manager yelling at the staff , did not leave a good taste in mouth either . We need a true meat & 3 with good home cooking to come back to the area, I had hopes considering Staxs is helping run the restaurant but it seems they must be lacking in many of the same areas

Lisa catered our Christmas work breakfast and everything was delicious and she set it all up and was very personable. Highly recommend and will be using them again next year.

“Haven’t been here since the new ownership took over, but wow — the food was incredible and the service was outstanding. The new owners are doing a great job, and the manager is awesome!”
