Found this gem while on adventure for my anniversary and was blown away. Its nice and quiet and the service and vibes were great but the food was hands down the best part. I’ve tried different BBQ joints around the DMV and like to check out the local restaurants and this has been the best place I’ve gone to so far. Prices and portions were fair, menu’s nothing fancy or overwhelming its great straight to the point southern BBQ.

A great place to get bbq in Middletown
This restaurant, Black Hog BBQ, started in Frederick, Maryland and has grown into a small restaurant chain with four active locations in the state. Their website states that the black hog is the rarest breed of hogs and they decided to name their company after it. This location, the Middletown restaurant, is the newest addition to the group. We were driving through town and looking for a bite to eat and decided to try it. It is a little off the main road but pretty easy to get to. It is in a strip center on a corner unit with plenty of parking. We were greeted as we entered and taken to a table. The waitress, Athena, did a wonderful job for first-timers like us. She told us that most of the locations are similar to this one with a restaurant and a bar. I ordered a chopped pork platter (sandwich and a side of French fries) and a sweet tea. The sandwich and fries were excellent. The tea had a different taste from the ones that I am used to so that was not my favorite. Food is served on metal trays with butcher paper below and plastic silverware so don’t expect fancy plates. The staff was wonderful, the location was very clean and the prices were very reasonable for the amount and quality of food that you get. Overall, it was a great experience and I would definitely recommend it to fellow travellers looking for a good bbq meal in the area

We recently picked up dinner from Black Hog and, unfortunately, I was not impressed. They don’t accommodate requests for all flats when ordering wings—the best they can do is a 50/50 split. They also charge extra for additional sauce, and the containers provided were quite small.
The wings themselves were disappointing. The drumettes were overcooked to the point of being inedible, leaving me with only a few edible flats—an unfortunate value for nearly $20. The mac and cheese was also underwhelming, lacking flavor and tasting more like plain macaroni noodles with a slice of cheese melted over the top.
I’m not sure if this was just an off night or if the food is typically this bland, but I was definitely disappointed and won’t be returning. I wanted to share my honest experience so others are aware before visiting. We didn’t order any drinks, so I can’t comment on that portion of the menu.
I also want to note that parking is very limited and fills quick.

What happened to the bark? It looked like they skinned my brisket or purposely had a dog chew off all the bark. That’s literally the best part of brisket. Very strange. Hopefully this was a fluke. Check out the picture in case you think I’m crazy

Great food, great service, great atmosphere. I was lucky to have this place pop up on my phone during my travels. I had a pulled pork sandwich which was amazing. Their sweet potatoes are to die for. Parking was a bit scarce and people did have to make their own spots, but I was lucky enough to get a parking spot across the parking lot.

This place was pretty good. I enjoyed my pulled pork. Had fast service. The sauce was good and the potato salad was great. The pulled pork was flavorful and warm. I think it was a bit overpriced for the amount of meat I got but it was good. It came recommended by friends.
Update 2/12/22:
Came back through and tried something else. This time sat down outside and had phenomenally perfect service. The bacon cheeseburger was great and the sweet potato was out of this world. Still feel the amount of food for the price is a bit on the low side but overall flavor is on point.

Came through after a hike and sat down inside. The food was great. Triple meat mofo for the win. Pork fries were amazing as well. Service was a bit lacking this time and the prices are still not worth the portions. Awesome food though.

Our waitress (Kayla I think) was amazing and the ribs were delicious and tender. Perfectly matched with sweet potatoes and baked beans! Will definitely eat there again to try Kayla’s recommended brisket.

This place was fantastic. The brisket was divine the entire table order it because it was so good. Their chilli and gumbo appetizers were great and well made. Their corn bread is amazing and especially it isn’t dry. Overall the food and service was perfect would highly recommend if you love bbq.

A little over priced for simple BBQ food. Nothing fancy. Service was average. Small portions but I also got my food to go maybe that affected it. The cashier was knowledgeable but the food didn’t match her descriptions. Wish I could smell them actually cooking BBQ from the entrance. Macaroni needed much more….love. Overall 3/10
