The sandwiches here are better than I have had at any sandwich shop. The bread is just the right amount of moist and the toppings are high quality and delicious. Order it warm, I don’t think you will be disappointed.
My wife says the soups she has had here are amazing as well, and one of these days I will test them out myself.
Admittedly I haven’t strayed away from the sandwich options because 1) the bread is delicious and fresh and 2) you can endlessly customize. There is a menu of sandwiches but you can also build your own. When you arrive, you simply fill out the sheet of paper with your order and bring it to the cashier to pay.
Some of our favorites: big smith, chicken breast and cheese, club, Southwest chicken wrap.
Dine in has simple tables and chairs off to the side. It can get busy at meal times but the wait is usually reasonable.
You can also purchase a wide selection of breads, pastries/desserts, and drinks. Oh yeah, and whatever else you need because it’s inside a hardware store.
10/10 recommend. I go back every time we are remotely in the area. It’s definitely one of the best places to stop if in town, and don’t forget to buy some bread to take with you.
A college budget friendly place with great food. The seating isn’t much but the soups, sandwiches and friend chicken is amazing with a reasonable price and the portions are amazing. I go there any time I can and recommend it to anyone coming through.
The food is fantastic. Everything tastes fresh, homemade, and crafted with real care. It’s the kind of place where you end up saying, “I can’t believe this is inside a hardware store,” in the best possible way.
If you’re anywhere near the area (whether you’re shopping for tools or you’re just hungry) Mr. Smith’s is absolutely worth a stop.
There is signage on the building and at the corner of the street, but from the outside you wouldn’t know there’s a sandwich shop inside.
The ordering system is a little untraditional: you make your selection with markers on paper that are off to the side; not sure if this speeds up the ordering process or not, but if it works it works.
The sandwiches are delicious, I frequently get the French dip and occasionally some soup. Always fresh food and quick service.
