The service kinda sucked though. We are visiting from out of state and after driving 30 minutes just to get this pizza, we arrived 20 minutes before closing. Realizing that wasn’t great, we decided to just walk in and order to go, so we would keep them open late. After walking in and to the hostess stand, where there was a sign that said Wait to be Seated, the hostess literally just stared at us. She didn’t say a single word. It was so awkward. Then we asked if we could place a To Go order and weren’t directed to go online and/or offered a menu. Thankfully we knew what we wanted and she took out order.
The pizza was ready quickly (which was appreciated) and before their posted closing time. The hostess just handed us the pizza box and we weren’t thanked for our order or wished a good night or anything hinting at good customer service.
The staff is always friendly, the service is quick, and the place has that classic neighborhood pizza vibe that just feels right. Whether you’re grabbing a quick slice or ordering for the whole family, they never disappoint.
If you’re looking for real, old-school style pizza done right, Lenny’s is the place. Highly recommend!
First impression of Lenny’s Pizza? Cozy and inviting. The restaurant has both a bar area and a dining space, offering a great atmosphere for any type of visit. What really stands out is their coal-fired pies.
I went with the Lenny’s Pie, and it was fantastic. The sweet and spicy combination hit all the right notes, and the crust? Perfectly cooked with a great undercarriage—just enough char for that signature coal-fired taste. The Supreme pie was just as impressive—cheesy goodness with a flawless crust that held up without a flop, and that slight char added an extra layer of flavor that made it all come together perfectly.
I paired my pizza with a Bell’s Brown Ale, which was great. However, it could’ve been colder coming out of the tap—though, in fairness, it was 2° outside, so I probably should’ve just stuck my beer outside to cool it down for that frosty, refreshing taste.
Lenny’s offers about 20 beers on draft, plus a selection of domestic beers in cans and bottles, red and white wine, and cocktails. The variety is solid, so there’s something for everyone.
Service was great, and the restaurant maintained a clean environment, including spotless restrooms. Oh, and I have to mention the napkin game—A+.
Overall, Lenny’s is a great spot if you’re in the mood for Newark-style, coal-fired pizza with excellent beer and a welcoming atmosphere. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in the Valpo area!
Full review – I’ve seen this a few times driving by and tonight we decided to try it due to our favorite restaurant being packed. When I arrived it was very slow its Saturday night so that was concerning. When we walked in it smelled like cleaner and our table was sticky so I was starting to get worried. We ordered and the staff was great. The food was very quick as well.
The pizza by far is some of the best pizza I’ve had. The sauce has alot of flavor, nice and crispy but not burnt.
The Italian beef was packed with flavor and juicy.
The lemon rice soup was surprisingly very good. It shocked my wife and I. The kids loved the food and we left very happy.
Overall its very underrated I feel and we definitely will be back. New favorite pizza spot in the area.
