Overall a very enjoyable experience, we will definitely be visiting again soon. My wife has an allergy to one of the preservatives in many mass produced pizza sauces in the chain restaurants and I was very happy to hear that Tomatoes & Flames makes their own sauce in house. So if you are sensitive to preservatives, like my wife, this is definitely a safe place eat. Staff was very friendly.
If you are in Mount Sterling’s historic downtown district I would highly recommend this place for a very enjoyable lunch or dinner.
My husband and I came in one day and ordered a coffee during the week, the girls behind the counter acted like they’ve never served anyone a coffee before. My husband had a few questions that they answered hesitantly, while the owner sat at a table on his phone. It felt awkward.
The next week we decided the descriptions of their pizza were too good to pass up. Wood-fired pizza with fresh mozzarella and cupping pepperonis? Sign me up! The ambiance is very nice. Good music playing, artwork on the walls and real plants on each table.
We ordered and tipped at the counter and our “server” (he had a floured apron on) gave us our drinks and then proceeded to sit down with his own food and eat. Workers gotta eat too, I get it. We were served our pizzas and no one offered a plate, silverware or even a napkin. No napkins on the table, either. Drink machine was behind the register so it’s definitely not a self-serve place. It made me wonder if they tip share, because if not we tipped someone who literally sat down after we ordered, leaving the other two workers to finish serving.
The pizza was embarrassing. The crust was limp, not cooked all the way, had absolutely no wood-fired taste, the cheese was very obviously cheap mozzarella as well as the pepperoni. Frozen pizza tastes better than this. We honestly felt lied to from the descriptions. Very disappointed and will not be back.
Now, I’m not the biggest fan of grits, in fact, I’ve never had grits I have enjoyed, until now. The texture and taste were perfect, and my kids even ate them up!
The waffles were the right balance of crispy and soft, and the syrup, and sauces were fresh and favorable.
I have 4 kids, and the service was very kid friendly, they were very thoughtful and foresaw needs before we even asked.
This is our first time here, and it won’t be our last. The location is quaint, the music is calm and soothing, and on this rainy day it was perfect.
So, support your local establishments and come on in! Looking forward to trying the Brick Oven Pizza!
