Met 3 friends there last night, we were the last ones there and at then one of us stated she thought they closed 15 min ago. We all immediately got up and thanked the staff profusely for waiting. The staff was so pleasant, thanked us for coming and stated they did not want to disturb as we were having such a nice time. The food was yummy with plentiful portions (we all had take home boxes). Thanks to the staff for allowing us to enjoy each other on our 2X a year get together.

A tride and true pizza place, thick crust with yummy sauce and the best wings! Its always a treat when I get to order from here. The reasturant is a little “outdated” some might say but it gives it its charm. Can’t go wrong at Papa Z’s!

Large menu, sauce is flavorful, cheezy garlic bread was excellent, the grilled chicken and chicken parm were tasty. We went here after doing the Baby Goat Snuggles at Syman Says Farms. It was a great day.

Absolutely Delicious – A Must-Visit in Colchester!
Papa Z’s Pizza is hands down one of the best local gems in Connecticut. From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted with friendly service, a welcoming atmosphere, and the mouthwatering aroma of fresh, homemade pizza.
Their crust is the perfect blend of crispy and chewy, the sauce is flavorful without being overpowering, and the toppings are always generous and fresh. Whether you’re grabbing a quick slice or ordering a full pie, everything is made with care. Their garlic knots and grinders are also worth writing home about!
As someone who has traveled a lot and tasted pizza from coast to coast, I can honestly say Papa Z’s holds its own. This place is a testament to what a good family-owned pizzeria should be—delicious food, fair prices, and service with a smile.
Highly recommend supporting this amazing local business. You won’t be disappointed!

I’ve lived in Connecticut my whole life, and I can say without a doubt that Papa Z’s in Colchester has some of the best pizza this state has to offer. The food is consistently amazing, and you can tell they use high-quality ingredients in everything they make.
But let’s talk about the real stars of the show: the specialty pizzas. The Baked Potato Pizza is an absolute game-changer! It’s creamy, savory, and loaded with all the best parts of a baked potato on a delicious crust. It sounds wild, but trust me, you have to try it. I also can’t get enough of the Philly Cheese Pizza—it’s the perfect blend of steak, peppers, onions, and cheesy goodness. They absolutely nail the flavor.
What truly makes this place special, though, is the staff. Every time I go in, I’m greeted with a warm smile. They are so genuinely caring and friendly, and it makes the whole experience that much better. You can tell they love what they do. If you’re anywhere near Colchester, you owe it to yourself to stop by Papa Z’s. You won’t be disappointed!

I had the best meal I’ve had in a long time. Spinach fettuccine with scallops. Sauce was delicious. Everyone also had good experiences. I’ll be back.

My wife and I ordered dinner. As expected my salad came out ( my wife ordered a grinder) I ordered fried chicken a special on the list. I ate the salad, the misses didn’t want any. Then her grinder came out about 10 minutes later. I told her to go ahead and start eating my food will be out momentarily. The waitress came by a few times apologizing because my food was not ready. Needless to say my food got to the table 15 maybe longer minutes later. The food was fine but really! I went pay at register and they offered me no discount or apology.I paid and left the waitress 20 percent and it will be a long time before we go back, we do eat there often more take out.Time to find a new restaurant.

I normally have great experiences at Papa Z’s but today was not one of them. My wife wanted prime rib and they had a special for it. Ordered online which was super easy and fast for a Friday night and chose medium rare for the meat temperature. When I got home I was surprised that the prime rib was well done. I normally would just chalk it up to a bad or end cut but this was clearly a middle cut. I called in to let them know of the issue and spoke with the woman who helped me check out earlier. She was extremely rude and told me that I will never get a rare or medium rare from them as they cook their prime rib to a medium and then microwave it as orders come in. I asked why even offer those temperatures as an option or reheat it in the oven rather than the microwave and was told that I couldn’t expect a fresh prime rib whenever I wanted. My next question was well if this isn’t fresh, then when is it from? This question apparently set off the woman helping me as I couldnt get a word in for the next few minutes as I listened to why the fact that I wanted a medium-rare prime rib was out of the question and ridiculous. I was then offered either a cold piece of meat from their fridge that I could then heat up however I wanted or take a refund. I chose the refund and was met with “good because I don’t think you’ll be happy”.
On top of this, my normal order of Fettuccine Alfredo with Shrimp, Scallops, and mushrooms was extremely bland and overcooked. Honestly all of this would have still been met with 2-3 stars and just chocked up to a bad night but the response that I got was just unacceptable and forced my hand. I genuinely hope Papa Z’s takes this as an opportunity to do better and take off prime rib from the menu if they can’t handle it.

Horrible cheese pizza, oily cheap cheese, oil soaked cardboard disc, grease/ oil actually leaked through the box and the sauce- what little there was -tasted like Campbell’s tomato soup , definitely won’t be returning,
