Reviews
The dining space is spacious and bright, and everything felt clean. Overall, it was a pleasant dining experience.
Tastes amazing both in-store and as takeout seriously, still so good even at home.
The gamjatang has zero gamy smell, super clean flavor.
The jokbal was super tender and perfectly chewy absolutely loved it!
Gamja Tang Tang is a phenomenal Korean restaurant tucked inside a busy mall in Fort Lee, NJ. I had high expectations going in—thanks to glowing reviews on Thread—and left even more impressed. This place didn’t just meet the hype, it exceeded it.
The famous spicy jokbal absolutely lived up to its reputation. It’s telling that both tables next to mine ordered the same thing. My verdict? It’s the best spicy jokbal I’ve had outside of South Korea—hands down.
I followed it up with their signature gamjatang, which was equally excellent. The portion was enormous, and the flavor profile was deep, rich, and unapologetically authentic. Just a heads-up: if you’re used to milder or sweeter versions elsewhere, this one leans into a bold, adult taste that stays true to its roots.
Even the leftovers were thoughtfully wrapped in high-quality containers—proof that this place takes pride in every detail. Gamja Tang Tang plays the restaurant game right, and I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone craving genuine Korean comfort food.
The seafood pancake was exceptional, one of the best I’ve ever had. It was crispy and airy, yet hearty, and with plenty of seafood. The bulgogi was also great. It was perfectly sweet and savory, with just the right hint of smokiness from the grill.
However, the gamjatang was pretty bad for a restaurant that specializes in it and named after the dish. It was brought out in a pot, cooked for 10 minutes, and served bland, light, and flavorless. It probably should have been cooked for at least 20-30 more minutes with more salt. It was a good size for a dish meant for 2 people.
Service was pretty inconsistent. The first set of servers were nice but I think there was a shift change during our meal, and the new lady was not nice and was pretty difficult to get attention and generally acted like we were annoying her by asking for things like napkins and check.
There’s a discount for cash and an extra fee for credit cards so bring cash is possible.
