Los Garcia’s | Authentic Mexican Restaurant in Kailua, HI
Reviews
The horchata tasted like watered-down powdered mix, and the jalapeño poppers were just sad. Jack in the Box has better jalapeño poppers, and that says a lot. Overall, this was a disappointing meal and definitely not worth the money.
The food however was pretty basic Mexican, more fast food style in my opinion. Drinks were ok but definitely cheaper made than others we’ve had in the area.
The owners are authentic Mexicans from Guadalajara, and the food and service are excellent. We loved the salsas and drinks! If you want to try good Mexican food in Hawaii, this is definitely your best option!!
The chimichanga was the best I’ve ever had: perfectly crisp, generously filled, and packed with flavor. Their table salsa deserves its own shout-out too — rich, fresh, and with just the right amount of spice.
Great food, welcoming vibe, and a place we’ll absolutely be returning to. Highly recommended for anyone craving quality Mexican food on the Windward side.

Los Garcia’s is that spot you go to when you’re craving legit, home-cooked Mexican food without having to actually cook. Everything tastes like it came straight from someone’s abuela’s kitchen—comforting, fresh, and zero pretentious vibes. The portions are generous, the flavors are on point, and the whole place just feels warm and familiar. If you want real, no-nonsense Mexican comfort food that hits every time, this is it.
There were ten of us, and we stopped in on a Saturday night. We noticed the “Birria” special right away. Even though I usually skip the specials, my daughter and I decided to go for it. Cut to later, and four people in our group got seriously sick. It hit us that night, kept going all day Sunday, and even into Monday. Every single person who got sick had eaten the birria.
My wife called the restaurant on Sunday to tell them what happened. The woman who said she was the owner apologized, but she immediately shut down our complaint by saying, “That’s weird because we never got any other complaints.” That made us feel like they didn’t take us seriously or think our concern was valid. Honestly, the owner’s handling of the situation was a real letdown. They offered and credited us for the two birria orders, but they made sure to remind us again that we were the only ones who had complained.
To be fair, the service on Saturday night was very good.
