The Pink Grouse is a beautiful dining experience that I highly recommend. I started with the corn chowder, which included an excellent assortment of veggies that brought out the rustic flavor. (5/5) The mussels were delicious, the mussel sauce was habit-forming, and the size of the mussels themselves was impressive. (5/5) The tomato and tangerine salad was sweet, light, and farm-to-garden fresh. (4.8/5)

The three entrees I selected for the table were the chicken confit (5/5), the duck bolognese(4.5/5), and braised pork cheeks (5/5). The chicken confit was flawless. Crisp skin and tender meat hit just right. The braised pork cheeks were worth the trip!

We visited during Restaurant Week and were seated in the lobby. From the beginning, the experience was frustrating and disappointing. Despite being one of only two tables in that area, we were largely ignored for the majority of our visit. It took over 90 minutes for our food to arrive, and when it finally did, one of the dishes came with bacon—an ingredient that was not listed on the menu.

Due to religious dietary restrictions, we couldn’t eat the dish and had to wait even longer for it to be remade. The lack of attention to detail and disregard for basic dietary considerations was unacceptable.

The service overall was shockingly unprofessional. Our server was consistently absent, and the other table in the lobby appeared to be experiencing the same level of neglect. The portions were small, the food quality was underwhelming, and the experience did not justify the wait or the cost.

Although the staff offered a complimentary bottle to make up for the situation, we declined. The time and energy we spent at this restaurant were truly wasted. This was one of the most poorly managed and inconsiderate dining experiences I’ve ever had. I would strongly advise against dining here.

We loved this restaurant when it was owned by The quirk and called the Pink Grouse. However, now that is that the hotel is owned by the Doyle they’ve moved the restaurant to the lobby which is very noisy and disruptive when you’re eating. Also the menu is much more limited although the food was still tasty. I wish they would move the restaurant back to its former location.

We came here at 5pm for happy hour oysters and the entire bar and restaurant was totally empty. Someone from the lobby eventually came and told us to have a seat, but the bartender/anyone from the restaurant never came over or acknowledged us in any way. We eventually just left. Bummer.

My wife and I dined at the Pink Grouse last evening. We both enjoyed the 6 Course Tasting Menu. The food was well portioned, incredibly well sourced and seasoned, innovative, and very much enjoyable. The only thing more impressive than the food was the service. Lauren was our food runner. With each course she meticulously explained each component of the dish and provided the perfect amount of information about what we were about to enjoy. In these times of Covid and caution my wife and I felt safe and very well cared for by the staff and for the briefest of moments felt normal enjoying a wonderful dining experience. Not an easy task these days. I highly recommend you try the Pink Grouse for the food and the impeccable service.

It’s taken days to get over how truly revolting the food was at the Pink Grouse. I met up with friends from afar in Charlottesville (stayed at Quirk) so our dinner of the evening should’ve been exceptional. With the very limited menu, pricing, & beautiful ambiance, I had high hopes. Every meal was not just subpar, they were gross. I got the fish dish with potatoes & asparagus. It tasted like a very average lean cuisine. The vegetables were barely cooked & there was no sauce or flavor. My fish was thin & dry. Our server rarely checked in but when he finally did, I asked for salt & pepper which made little impact. My friends got the oyster mushroom dish (gag) & the linguini (the best of the 3 but was swimming in water from the mussels). The server never removed our dish ware & the crumbs from our appetizer, which seems odd in a place where dishes are around $40/plate. I wish I could reverse time & go to one of the dozens of wonderful restaurants Charlottesville has to offer instead of the Pink Grouse.

This restaurant offers an exceptional dining experience. The food was exquisite, and the service was impeccable! A standout moment was when Executive Chef Marcus graciously met with our table to ensure everything was perfect. Highly recommend!

The food was just okay, but not nearly worth the price. The restaurant was completely empty, which made the ambiance less than appealing. When we made our reservation, it asked if we were coming for any special occasion. My husband put in that we were celebrating our wedding anniversary and it was not mentioned once by any of the staff. We spent $75 on just our main course alone and left hungry and disappointed.

I read the reviews and ignored them, at my peril. The maitre d’ brought out our charcuterie board and had no idea what was on it, blamed the chef for just changing it. He went back to the chef for details and we were told a blue, a goat, and a cow. Thanks for that. Bone marrow was very good. After an extraordinarily long wait our mains arrived…. Well 4 out of the 7 anyway. Waiter apologized profusely, blamed it on the chef and said 2 minutes. 15 minutes later 2 of the remaining 3 entrees arrived. He was dumbfounded they were still missing one. So sorry, 2 minutes… 10-15 minutes later we had 7 out of 7 entrees! Dinner was cold at that point and reviews ranged from “not bad” to “okay I guess.”

Great food, great service. Popped in here after arriving to town. Menu seems delicious and it was hard to choose. I went with the chicken and gnocchi; it was great. The broth was tasty and great when sopped up with a piece of bread. Great local wine selection. I would return without hesitation.

Give this place a try. It is worth your time and money.
