This place is beautiful, it has been decorated with purpose and love. As soon as we walked in we were transported to a different era and place. It was peaceful yet with boleros playing on the back, plants all around and a beautiful thick tree. Its colonial architecture trips you into a peaceful world that makes you curious about the moment, place and time. Their food is artisanal by a recognized Cheff. We had a delicious welcoming papaya jelly, ordered the chipin tamal and the cereal, amazing flavor, it was a whole adventure! Every single detail, the juice was great, and the waitress was SO attentive. Finally we found a place with high standards that helped us travel in time in San Cristobal. It is such a nice town.
The chicken was rolled and 4 good pieces and purple cauliflower and Cacao-style ??? I did not care for the dressing I got that one the side. The desert was a local cake very large and delightful
Sweet poxna again the sweet sauce on the side but the cake was gooood odd and light and just unique
16.738880°, -92.638525° Part of chic hotel Sombra del Agua with inner courtyard in the centre of San Cristóbal de las Casas, this top TripAdvisor restaurant caters for hotel and outside guests. You can dine in the courtyard with fireplace during cold evenings or inside in a very nicely decorated restaurant. Service is attentive and professional from the start.
In December 2024, as appetiser we ordered four taquitos villa (rolled-up tortilla) stuffed with shredded (tinga) mushrooms, cream of four cheeses, strips of serrano chilli and caramelised onion in red wine (Mex$130). Excellent-tasting starter with nice flavours and textures.
As main courses, we ordered grilled 250-gram picaña (Brazilian picanha) with dried tomato sauce, beets, sweet potato crisps in regional chocolate gravy (Mex$340). We were hesitant about the combination of meat and chocolate sauce, but had to conclude that this is a very tasty combination. The picaña was well prepared and a very tasty culinary experience.
Tarumba restaurant offers a culinary experience. Highly recommended.
Excellent staff with knowledge of the local ingredients. Going in great length to explain you the small details of your dish. The food – is just 1A. Can’t get any better in terms of composition and flavouring. One of the best ambiences as well to have your dinner at – a fire place – impeccable restaurant design and live (yet not disturbing at all) Mexican live music from 2 people who know what they are doing.
You better visit this place – you won’t regret it.
