Four and a half stars (4 1/2). I would definitely return. Food was good; but got cold fast, because of the plastic plate (ate in the restaurant/dined in). I guess Federico’s spoiled me with their real plates. lol Again, good food, I would recommend to others and I will return. Maybe I’ll change my mind and give them 5 stars in the future.

Just to give you an idea, I grew up in Pico Rivera, a city outside of East Los Angeles. I’d consider myself a Mexican food critic and a half. This here is GOOD Mexican food. I went in to get the Carne Asada Quesadilla, sat down and enjoyed it so much that I took a Quesabirria Quesadilla to go and promptly ate it immediately as well. Fantastic flavor. Right amount of everything. You will not regret it.

My wife and I were passing through Albuquerque and randomly stumbled on this spot, Birria Estilo Zacatecas #4, and let me just say, WOW. We’re from Houston, Texas, and I was born in San Diego, so I’m pretty picky when it comes to Mexican food. Most of what we saw in New Mexico leaned heavily into southwestern-style cuisine, which isn’t really our thing. But this place? Total game changer.

We were craving something hearty, and when we saw they had birria tacos and carne asada fries, we were sold. I’m all about meat and fries, and my wife likes things a little fresher, lettuce, tomatoes, sour cream, so we compromised and ordered the carne asada fries… but asked them to add lettuce and tomato on top.

Not only did they say yes, but they put it together beautifully. The carne asada was seasoned and grilled perfectly, the fries were hot and crispy, the guac and sour cream were fresh, and the extra lettuce and tomato made it feel like we both got what we wanted. The portion size? Absolutely massive. We could’ve split it and still had leftovers.

It’s a cozy little spot with friendly service and great vibes. If you’re anywhere near downtown Albuquerque and want real Mexican flavor, skip the touristy places and give this place a shot. You won’t regret it.

10/10 would come back. And next time? I’m trying those birria tacos.

We’re from Houston, where authentic Mexican food is everywhere, so we weren’t expecting much from Albuquerque after seeing most local spots covered everything in cheese or gravy (huge no from my husband, who’s from Mexico). After scrolling through tons of highly rated places that just didn’t look right, we found this little taco shop with only about 10 reviews—but the photos looked on point. No melted cheese blanket. No mystery sauce puddles. Just fresh, real food.

We showed up around 3:30 PM, so it was super quiet (which made us nervous at first), but it made sense for the time of day. The service was quick, the food came out hot, and everything tasted fresh. We ordered the carne asada fries and added lettuce and tomato for a little extra crunch and freshness. Honestly, it hit the spot. The meat was flavorful—my only tiny complaint is a few bites had that chewy gristle, but not enough to ruin anything.

This place was a hidden gem. We’re already planning to stop again on our way back through. If you’re looking for real Mexican food—not Tex-Mex covered in cheese soup—this is it.

I showed up at 9:30am on Tuesday. The photos on the window look amazing. The Taco Tuesday birria special looks amazing: 20 tacos, four fountain drinks and four consomes for $35 is pretty good. But the sign said they were closed… Is this place still open?

tl;dr: I waited twice for my tipped pickup order just so they could add ‘extra ingredients’ to food that was only decent. (09/22/2025)

I ordered their Super Fries through Seamless this evening because I was in the mood for some and made my way over so it’d still be hot by time I started eating. Well… Seamless messaged me 1 minute before my scheduled pickup time (7pm) that my order was ready, I walked in a minute later, and told the not-very-friendly lady behind the counter I was there for my pickup order while putting on my KN95 mask and noticing I was the only customer. After responding, she walked a few feet into the BoH and faced where the sizzling sounds were coming from. I assume to speak quietly to the person who made my food since I never heard a word back there.

Other than her, I only saw 2-3 very small kids a 1-3 feet past the doorway staring at me curiously and her grabbing 1 or 2 of them by the arm to bring them back where I couldn’t see them.

Here’s where the problem became obvious. After waiting 5 or 6 minutes, I pulled out my phone and started taking a picture of a flyer they have to the left of the doorway. I guess she suspected something because once she noticed this she actually stopped keeping her back to me and walked back out. I don’t recall who spoke first, but she told me they ‘just’ started making my food minutes after I walked in. Surprised, I explained and ended up showing her the txt Seamless sent me about it being ready before I walked in. She, somewhat nervously while stepping back, proceeded to claim for the 2nd time that she hadn’t pushed the button yet on her end. Implying that Seamless was mistaken. I kept cool and pretended like Seamless made an error before being told it’ll take 5 more minutes and telling her I’ll be outside. 1 or 2 minutes later, she walks out with my food in a tied plastic bag.

Context & Opinion:
I’m visibly Afro-American and very dark-skinned compared to her and the kids. There’s very little reason for me not to assume racism (or at least anti-mask mentalities) was at hand considering the occasional person in ABQ (that same day even) who’ll make it clear they take issue with me before we’ve even gotten close enough to interact. ‍♂️ [dark-skinned man shrugging emoji] There’s a reason why I prefer to have my food delivered out here.

So in the end, I had a choice: get food from somewhere else or consume what definitely has more than just spit in it. You’d think, with everything going on right now, people would stop punching down. But if it’s the only way they can feel good about themselves then they’re probably worse off than I thought.

I had the Asada burrito for lunch and I spit it out on the first bite. The burrito had an exorbitant amount of salt, it had no flavor except salt, and it was a waste of my hard earned money. A coworker praises this place, but I found it awful! Yuck is a good way to describe it! Yuck! Yuck! Yuck!
