Social Profile:

At Old Wharf, we stand in the historical location of former jetties, piers, homes and taverns from where, since the 1800s colourful traders, merchandisers, exporters and explorers have shipped Tassie’s renowned produce across the globe. Chef Alvin Sim and his team acknowledge this history and curate a menu that celebrates and explores classic dishes – with a Tasmanian twist. Reimagined and refined, this menu nods to Hobart’s past while championing our celebrated produce and boutique Tasmanian growers.

An amazing dinner experience we had. The gourmet food were all amazingly cooked and prepared. The port cutlet is beyond what i can actually imagine. It was perfectly cooked, so tender with such a delish sauces. The caramel ice cream and soft dessert was also incredible.

That was a nice trial for the year end, but didn‘t worked at all! Bad service, not perfect food and a very noisy surrounding, waited for our seats 20min! So we paid nearly A$ 1.000 and other did much better! Waited more then 25 min for cocktails coming with the 2nd course, no bread, and another 20‘min for the wine. And the courses were not really good in comparison to Frogmore, The Source or aLoft … but on the same price level. Together with the noise level a real no go!!!!

Old Wharf Restaurant Lounge, Hobart Tasmania: This is the coolest, no, warmest refuge from the harsh, cutting and whipping winds out there. Duck into the beautiful lounge and warm yourself In front of the toasty fireplace. Hot chocolate and fireplace feels like a ski bar but it’s the deep blue sea that greets you, not snow-capped peaks. #eatstylishtravelstylish

Great quality food and the serving sizes were fantastic. There was a great variety of food and loved the vegetarian menu as an option. Really appreciated the free bubbly to celebrate our anniversary. The atmosphere was fantastic and service was amazing.

We dined at Old Wharf Restaurant in Tasmania and really enjoyed the overall experience. The place has a great atmosphere, and the service was warm and attentive. I ordered the heirloom carrots, which were absolutely delicious – sweet and flavorful thanks to the honey. My friend had the pork cutlet, which I tried and found tasty, but my friend thought it was a bit too salty. I had the steak, which was decent, though not particularly memorable. Overall, it’s a lovely spot to relax with some drinks and enjoy the setting. Worth a visit for the vibe and service!

Had 2 breakfasts here with our stay at the Macq 01. A compact variety but everything is delicious. There is also a option of cooked/hot meal. We come here to eat every morning because service and food is exquisite. Definitely have give the croissant with egg a go and the coffee is on point.

Breakfast at Old Wharf

My partner and I LOVE breakfast but we don’t get to eat it much in our everyday life, so we prioritize it when we go on holiday. Unfortunately the hotel we were staying at had a pretty mediocre breakfast, so we ended up at Old Wharf and let me say, we were beyond happy. We went 2 days in a row (and would have gone more had we discovered it sooner).

Old Wharf has figured out how to give guests the best aspects of a buffet breakfast (quantity and variety) without losing quality. If you get the Full Breakfast, you can get one menu item hot from the kitchen, PLUS add 3 sides, PLUS you get to take advantage of the continental buffet. It’s an amazing deal and ensures you get a hot, well-presented, delicious, filling breakfast while also having access to freshly baked pastries and breads, yogurt and muesli, fresh fruit, cheese, spreads, etc. Everything is high quality and clearly prepared by people who take breakfast seriously. ALSO, a barista coffee is included, and it’s GOOD.

Further, the staff were amazing. They were friendly and helpful both days. On Friday it was quiet when we were there, but it was really busy on Saturday and we arrived 15 minutes early for our booking, which was probably annoying, but everyone was super welcoming regardless. The kitchen is open and right next to the buffet so you can see how well-oiled the operation is. Honestly just really impressive across the board. If this is any indication of how the hotel is run, we’ll definitely stay here next time we’re in town.

Rest up your chompers if you want to get through the sirloin steak at The Wharf.

Definitely not the quality topside AXM as being claimed on the menu.

Sinewy, tough, thick strip of fat with bone in.
Meat value probably came in at 150g of possible 300g as claimed.

To top it off, being a half inch cut, it was overcooked.
Ordered medium rare, came out medium.

The 1 1/2 inch thick eye fillet the much better option, still overcooked, ordered medium, came out medium well, but was at least a quality cut.

Beautiful view. Over friendly staff. The service was fast and the food was very good. But to be honest I would say I was expecting a bit more. We had the Tasmanian salmon which was very good but the dish was a bit small for the price. Had the artichokes which were absolutely awesome. And the cucumber salad that was pretty average.
We really enjoyed desert, the pana cotta, and that I need to say was very generous.
Overall, 5 stars but could be better, since as customers, we are expect 10 out of 10 in a restaurant of this category.
