I cannot say enough how good this food is! The back story and the family working together to have such an awesome place is heart warming! The food… it doesn’t matter what you try, you will love it! The portions are a good size so be hungry! We will be going here every time we come to town! Great job family holding up your promise to Jesse! Can’t wait to go back when mom is all healed up!

Wow! Can’t say enough good things about the cooking, food, and service here. Stop what you’re doing and go get food there now. My wife and I stopped in on an overnight in WSS and both agreed it was the best meal we had had in as long as we could remember. I ordered the Pepper Platter with all the meats. Pretty sure that much meat could feed me for a week. And the brisket… oh wow, what a labor of love. You can tell that it’s low-smoked for hours and arrives on your plate in its perfect state. Melt in your mouth cow-bacon! Salivating just remembering it. The story of the restaurant and the little family that runs it is well worth reading and asking about while you’re there! And don’t get me started on the coconut cake (eyes roll back in head at the delightful memory). Will be back.

What a quaint little family owned restaurant. The atmosphere was fantastic. They had no room, but then they made room for us. The food was delicious. The customer service was amazing. Everything from the beer, appetizers, main course and the desserts were absolutely incredible.

I don’t say this lightly… best brisket I have ever eaten, and I make a damn good brisket myself… and I’m from St. Louis originally! Warm atmosphere, amazing service, everything is HOMEMADE! The desserts are off the hook! The house dressing is to die for. Don’t miss out on this family owned and operated gem! You’ll feel like family too and want to keep returning home for mom’s fine vittles!!!❤️

The Best Barbecue in Montana—hands down. The Wrecked & Refined Family gladly makes the 1.5-hour trip just to eat at Jessie Pepper’s Smoke Shack, and it’s one of our favorite places—not just for the food, but for the incredible family behind it.

This is more than a BBQ restaurant—it’s a story of family, legacy, and food made with love. The owner is an incredible baker who handcrafts every dessert, even growing her own herbs and vegetables at home for the dishes served here. The dedication, care, and long hours she invests shine through in every bite.

Her sons are the pitmasters behind the unforgettable brisket, ribs, and fried chicken—smoked to perfection—and their daughter brings warmth and kindness to every table she serves. This family built the restaurant as a living tribute to their beloved son and brother, Jessie, who tragically passed away. Every plate served feels like part of his legacy.

As a family who has also walked the road of child loss, we understand the depth of that love and pain, and we pray blessings and favor upon this family.

The portions are generous (my husband and I share a meal and still take some home), the flavors are rich and soulful, and the service is the kind you remember long after you leave.

If you’re searching for the best barbecue in Montana with authentic flavor, heartfelt service, and a story that will stay with you—Jessie Pepper’s Smoke Shack is it. An absolute Montana treasure and a beautiful tribute to Jessie.

This was honestly some of the best food I have ever had. I had the daily special of brussel sprouts, they came perfectly cooked with delicious, thick pieces of bacon covered in parmesan. It was big enough to be its own entree. My boyfriend had their chili and it was THE BEST chili I have ever tasted. We each got an entree (we were almost full before those came) My pulled pork was perfect, the coleslaw was crisp and delicious and the fries were amazing. He had the brisket and blue and raved about the veggies. The owner came over, she was so sweet and had grown the veggies herself. If we ever go up through there again we will absolutely be stopping here again!

So insanely pleasantly surprised.
I make a point of traveling the world to eat good food. In all of the places I’ve been in rural, western America, this food is the by far the most surprisingly delicious!

Best potsticker I’ve ever eaten west of the Mississippi (and I’ve eaten them in 5 star restaurants in Denver and LA). The Mac and cheese was hand crafted and perfectly “cheesed”. The meat was tender and smoked perfectly.

For middle of nowhere eating, these cooks are absolutely phenomenal! Keep it up guys.

My partner insists we have to go back for lunch!
Love this place- it checks all the boxes ❤
We ordered the brisket wellington, a salad with maple sage dressing, the pork pot stickers. This was my first experience tasting beef wellington, and I’m still trying to process. Smokey tender, fall off the fork beef, a thin layer of decadent truffle mushrooms, under a buttery flaky crust.. I went into a second food coma after writing this. It was top notch and I feel like any future beef wellington I may have outside of Jesse Peppers will only disappoint.
The pot stickers were flavorful and panfried to perfection.
The salad was really fresh and I love the variety of tender lettuce.
We couldn’t decide on dessert so we took home 3! Coconut macaroons, apple rum cake- so so yummy, and our favorite was the raspberry chocolate cake. So delicious!
The only problem I have with this place is trying to decide what to order tomorrow

My husband, son, and I stopped in just for dessert to go, but ended up sitting down for dinner. Wow, we’re so glad we did! We shared the Fried Chix & Burnt Ends, and it was phenomenal. The portions were huge, the flavors were incredible, and everything was cooked to perfection.

For dessert, we took home the homemade strawberry chocolate cheesecake. Absolutely delicious! After chatting with a friendly local and our wonderful server, we learned that the owner comes in every morning to bake everything fresh. You can truly taste the difference!

The food, the service, the atmosphere all exceptional. It’s clear this locally owned spot puts so much heart into everything they do. We’ll definitely be back for more!
