After riding the GAP Trail, I was craving a big breakfast and Donges Drive-In in Meyersdale absolutely delivered! The staff was incredibly kind and welcoming, and the food was delicious and plentiful. I couldn’t even finish my pancakes, so they packed them up for me in a Ziploc bag to take on my bike trip. They ended up being my dinner later that night!

What really stood out was the real maple syrup (not the high-fructose kind!) and the old-fashioned charm of the place. My friend raved about their milkshake, and I loved that the chocolate milk is made fresh right in front of you instead of poured from a carton.

It was such a great experience — the kind of small-town hospitality that makes the GAP Trail special. I’ll definitely be back next time I’m in the area. My only regret is not having room for one of those milkshakes myself!

If you’re looking for a place that embodies small-town charm, big portions, and even bigger personality, Donges Drive-In & Motel is it. We stopped in for breakfast, and despite the place being packed with locals, we were immediately welcomed like old friends. Strangers chatted across tables, the staff cracked jokes, and everyone seemed to know everyone. It’s the kind of place where your server calls you “hun” and somehow remembers what you ordered better than you do.

The food? Absolutely ridiculous (in the best way possible). Prices are straight out of another decade, and the portions could feed a small army. The pancakes? Good luck finishing them—they’re the size of hubcaps and fluffy enough to double as pillows. One bite in, and we knew we’d be slipping into a glorious food coma for the rest of the day.

This place isn’t just a restaurant; it’s an experience. It’s where time slows down, where good food meets even better company, and where you leave with a full belly and maybe even a new friend or two. Whether you’re just passing through or a regular, Donges Drive-In makes you feel at home. 10/10, would roll myself back in here again. Oh and they have an ice-cream window, so that’s pretty neat!

I was bicycling the GAP Trail with four friends, and stayed the night at Donges Motel. It was easy enough to walk downstairs and pop in for dinner, and I’m glad we did. I had a burger and a caprese salad, plus Perry’s ice cream for dessert. The food was good – much better than the inexpensive price they charge. It was a no brainer to pop in again for breakfast in the morning. This time I had a Western omelette, and home fries, and once again the food way outperformed the modest price. The food was good, but it was the diner experience that made this place special. Melissa’s Rules (Melissa is the owner) say that you should sit down and visit with those around you, which is what we did. We made lots of new friends, and I really enjoyed watching the back and forth chop busting between the Regulars and the staff. When the wait staff is on a first name basis with the local people, you know you’re in the right place.

A really nice diner in the heart of Pennsylvania. Great diner food. Excellent service and a very friendly staff. I had the chicken salad sandwich special. It was very good and I eat a lot of chicken salads. The chocolate pie was not as good. It was a great place to get lunch on our bike ride from Ohiopyle to Cumberland.

Coming off the trail to this diner was a delight. I had the patty melt with fries and a delicious chocolate shake. It was so good. I asked for directions to the campsite and was confused when the waitress said follow the yellow brick road . I set up camp and went search for a cold beer. I stood on the corner in front of the diner looking like a lost dog and the diners owner stopped in her car and gave me directions. Gotta love those type of people

Great food, excellent service, and excellent value over-all. I highly recommend staying here (or at least stopping for food) if you’re riding the GAP.

My wife and I were staying at Yoder’s Guest House across the street after having ridden bikes for 3 days on the GAP. Donges Drive-In looked like our kind of place, and we were not disappointed. The Thursday special is spaghetti with salad and Texas toast. We were greeted with delicious and very generous portions, and had cornbread ice cream for dessert (sounds weird, but it was excellent). The prices are exceptionally reasonable. The service was attentive and charming.

All that would be good enough to warrant a 5 star review, but in addition, my wife left her purse there. A few days later, a box arrived in the mail with her purse and all contents and a very sweet note. In times when it is easy to lose faith in people, this was a very welcome expression of kindness and concern for strangers.

If we are ever anywhere close to Meyersdale again, we will certainly be stopping in.
