DOUG out
We have eaten there many times for dinner and enjoyed their excellent dishes and service.
Walking in for lunch, we noticed how quiet it was as only a couple of tables were being served. The TV was on but muted.
It was not busy! (Maybe that’s the problem.) Obviously a different lunch-time cook.
We were seated in a few minutes by unsmiling waiter with a flat affect, as if he did not want to be there. He did respond to our requests timely during our meal.
We ordered one Daily Special consisting of orange chicken, egg flower soup, one egg roll and rice. Also one appetizer of chinese chicken salad and hot tea for both. About $12 each.
The salad was huge and looked like it could feed two people. It consisted of overly large, quartered tomatoes, oversized rough-hand-torn ice berg lettuce, with too much sloppy dressing. The chicken was composed of such tiny pieces of what looked like leftover trim pieces from other menu choices. No finesse, at all. I ended up asking for a knife and chopping up everything to bite size myself.
The dressing actually tasted okay, BUT, they’re were No mandarin oranges, no finely chopped purple Cabbage, no minced ginger, no crunchy noodles, It looked like a child tried to make a salad with Thousand Island dressing for the first time. I mean, come on, at least watch a couple of YT or TT videos!
Moving on. The orange chicken pieces were so small that you really only tasted the crunchy coating. The egg roll was too perfectly rolled so it was cooked from frozen. The rice was barely tolerable as it looked like it was scooped with a giant ladle and put on the plate in the shape of the ladle.
We won’t be back for lunch. Time will tell if we return for dinner. We moved away from the Silver Palace. Guess we’ll have to travel a bit to get the quality meal we expect.
The taste of the food is very ordinary, not Chinese style, but the price is very good.
I also appreciate the friendliness of the staff.
American Chinese food style that is light on the pocket
Haven’t been back since before the pandemic no more linens, bare tables, paper napkins, run down. A shower curtain is used to separate part of the dining room but the worst of all… biggest black rat I’ve ever seen, running back and forth up on the ceiling sconces. This is proof our health department is failing us. They seem to be focused on takeout business now converted part of the dining room for that. Service staff was dry and straight faced. The food was flavorful and I enjoyed it until I saw the rodent in the dinning room. I did not take my leftovers home.
I’m very sad this was a great place. Must be new owners.
This post was from 5 years ago, and since then alot has changed It has changed owners a couple of times. I believe it recently changed owners again, so hopefully, they will change it for the better. Since the first owners left, they were two asian ladies, it kind of went downhill. It’s the little things such as removing the peas and carrots from the fried rice, changing the egg rolls, and changing the recipies of things; the orange chicken used to be juicy and freshly fried to a crisp. The last time i had the orange chicken it tasted like a fast food chinese takeout place, amd not in a good way.Things like that matter, so I’m hoping the new people make it deserve the 5 stars I put up 5 years ago. I recently went back to get my favorite hot and sour soup, and it was okay but not great. The previous owners, with glasses, had the soup tasting bland, and I would hardly ever have the thin mushrooms in it anymore; hardly any tofu either. This last time, with different people, still no mushrooms, but more tofu; which is awesome. However, I think they put sugar because it had a sweet after taste, which was a little off-putting. I have great hope for this place because I would always recommend it to everyone and I would bring my friends and family to eat here. An elderly family friend, before she died, would always rant and rave about this place. I’ll be returning soon to see how things change, hopefully for the better.
