I took my mom to Bistro 238 today for lunch and it was so wonderful! The food was soooooo good, the prices were absolutely reasonable and our server I believe her name was Pat was also absolutely wonderful as well. I highly recommend. All of the staff were very friendly and chef Simon even comes to ask you how your meal was. It was really the type of dining experience all restaurants should model after. So cute!

Finally, a proper fry-up in Canada! After 13 years here, I’ve finally found somewhere that offers a full English breakfast including beans, mushrooms, proper sausage, bacon and even a fried slice.

The Cumberland sausage was particularly lovely and makes me continually wonder why we don’t see nice sausages like this in supermarkets.

Absolutely lovely. A thoroughly enjoyable meal, great service and great spot in Courtice.

My wife will also be happy because I won’t have to bring my own beans in a flask to restaurants anymore 😉

Hidden gem. Very unassuming from the outside. First time visiting and we went for a dinner date.

Intimate setting and you are well looked after by the many servers present as well as the chef. Very personable and brings a level of warmth that was unexpected.

Baked goat cheese was delicious. My husband does not like goat cheese at all, yet really enjoyed this dish as well. The salmon was cooked perfectly. The braised beef was flavourful and super tender.

If you are even thinking about checking this place out, you won’t regret it.

We decided to try this place on a whim to celebrate our 10-year wedding anniversary — and we’re so glad we did. The food was absolutely phenomenal. I had the salmon, and my husband ordered the steak special. Both were cooked to perfection, with sides that were incredibly flavorful and delicious.
My mimosa was expertly made with quality champagne, and the service throughout the evening was exceptional. The wait staff were attentive, checking in regularly to make sure everything was to our liking, and even the chef came out to see how we were enjoying our meal — a lovely personal touch.
The restaurant itself is quaint, with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The only minor downside is that the tables are quite close together, but that’s understandable given the limited space.
Overall, I would highly recommend this spot for a beautifully cooked meal made with fresh, local ingredients. A perfect choice for a special evening out.

First time trying Bistro 238, and I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised. I stopped in earlier this week and right from the start, I noticed the place had a bit of a British charm to it. As I walked up to the counter, I passed by a tempting display of desserts and pre-prepared meals like shepherd’s pie and Caesar salad—everything looked fresh and inviting.

The dining area was clean and full of greenery, which gave it a refreshing, cozy vibe. The music was playing at a low volume, which I appreciated—it made it easy to actually hear the person I was with without shouting over background noise.

The service was great. The staff was friendly, attentive, and made the whole experience feel warm and welcoming.

I started with a mimosa. It was a little heavy on the alcohol compared to the juice, which definitely hit me faster than expected (I ended up ordering extra juice to balance it out—lesson learned!).

For my meal, I had the chicken, bacon, and avocado sandwich with a side of Caesar salad. Everything was fresh, well-prepared, and full of flavor. I’d absolutely order it again.

Even the washroom was worth noting—simple and clean, which adds to the overall experience.

Before leaving, I grabbed a raspberry tart to go, and once again, it didn’t disappoint.

If you’re ever passing through Courtice, Ontario, Bistro 238 is worth a stop. It’s a quality spot—definitely not your average pub-style place. You can tell there’s care in what they serve. Classy, fresh, and full of flavor.

Just placed an order at bistro238 of my favourites from this past Saturday brunch! This place truly is a hidden gem in Courtice! It was our first time for brunch and everything was delicious! Their quiche, their scones, their croissants, and this olive lemon cake – you know there’s a true pastry chef in the building when! The atmosphere is so cozy and they are beyond welcoming and nice. Chef Simon made the table since we were a walk in. He looks exactly like his picture btw. Highly recommend a reservation on weekends they get very busy. Everything was fresh tasting. Simple ingredients and the best quality. I can’t wait to try their dinner menu! I’m a foodie and so happy that my trips to Toronto for a good quiche and croissant fix are over. I have my spot in my hood now!

My favourite brunch in the GTA (and I’ve been to a lot!!). Fantastic food, great coffee, generous portions, great prices. The staff are super friendly, funny and learned our names and orders because we go so often. I have also had dinner there and the food was amazing. This place is a gem – highly recommend!

Fantastic.

My wife and I have been several times and ordered dinner from their regular menu. Always wonderful. We recently joined them for a Mystery dinner as well as a Chef’s Table dinner. Absolutely next level.

We loved leaving the decisions up to the top notch chef and having each course be a surprise. No dish was less than amazing. Every dish is unique and so well thought out to bring together flavors and textures that elevate your experience to make it unforgettable. All the staff are wonderful as well. You definitely will not be disappointed by your visit.

A lovely little spot in Courtice. The atmosphere is very cozy. The service was impeccable and we were checked on frequently.

The food was tasty, I had the ham, cheese, apple and dijon sandwich on sourdough. I’m not sure if it was supposed to be served warm but it was toasted (but cold) so the cheese and meat were cold too. Warm would have been more enjoyable. Either that or the bread shouldn’t be toasted. It was still a lovely sandwich. My friend had the Chicken Caesar Parm sandwich which she thoroughly enjoyed.

They also have take away meals in a cooler up front. Very convenient if you’re looking for a quick dinner. Shepherds pie, lasagna, salads and a few other options were available, as well as some lovely desserts, including a variety of butter tarts.

I visited here in March with a small group for the harvest table served family style by Chef Simon. We had the incredible Beef Wellington dinner with some of the most delicious sides I’ve ever tasted. The homemade bread was incredible and the dessert was delicious and the perfect end to the meal. The service was quick and seamless and the atmosphere was cozy and inviting. One of the best dinners I’ve ever had. Thanks for having us!
