Tikka Masala in Bethesda Row never disappoints! My daughter was home from college, and this was our very first stop after picking her up from the airport — it’s become our go-to comfort spot. We ordered the chicken tikka masala (always rich and flavorful), the lamb saag (perfectly spiced and tender), the cauliflower appetizer (crispy with just the right kick), and of course, warm garlic naan to go with everything. The food was absolutely delicious, as always. Cozy atmosphere, attentive service, and consistently great food make this place a favorite every time.

We ordered the food and requested plates. No plates were there. Even food was burdens. Chicken biryani was reheated and we have to trash the food and order it again.

Getting a quality lunch at Tikka Masala has become a gamble, and I’m tired of playing the game. I’m done. The Saturday lunch buffet today was shockingly bad. It was atrocious. The chicken was dry as sandpaper, the dishes were bland, the saag paneer looked a week old, the potatoes and zucchini were congealed slop. It was disgusting. I shouldn’t have even tried it, based on appearance alone I should’ve just walked out. It seems like they don’t care anymore. I don’t understand what happened to place. A few months ago it seemed like they had turned a corner, but clearly I was mistaken. The quality is wildly inconsistent. I’ve had Wednesday lunches that blew my socks off. I’ve had some really terrific lunches. And then there’s days like today. After my experience today, I just straight up won’t come back again. The waitress never even came to my table to check on me, literally not a single time. I don’t understand why I even left a tip. I never have these problems at Kadhai, and they have a similarly priced lunch buffet. Ownership should step in at some point. Just check your reviews. The community has taken notice.

his review is mainly focused on the buffet experience.

The restaurant itself is good and is one of the nicer-looking Indian restaurants in Bethesda. The restaurant was clean, the service was attentive, and everything seemed fine—until the food was brought out.

The buffet was a letdown with very limited choices. Most of the food tasted unremarkable, with a lot of dependence on plain tomato paste and spices. Being an Indian, I was hoping for authentic flavors, but the food tasted like it didn’t take the flight from India at all. Chicken 65 was tasty but far too oily. Palak paneer was soft but had no taste, and chickpeas lacked any depth of flavor. On the brighter side, butter chicken was cooked to perfection and was a highlight. I also tried the Kashmiri kofta, and I must say, it’s one of the top dishes here!

Meat lovers are treated to some good choices at this place. Vegetarians, on the other hand, have very limited options, so some of my family members were relegated to eating the same 2-3 dishes—a disappointing lapse for any Indian buffet.

If you are looking for Indian casual food, this place would do, but if you are looking for authentic, delicious food, you would likely want to keep looking. In total, I would rate it 3.5 stars.

What an amazing place to go for Indian cuisine! The staff are always extremely nice here, the food is absolutely delicious and the portion sizes does the trick. Gotta check this place out if in Bethesda! The lamb biryani is my personal fave, melts in your mouth and very flavorful!

Discovered this restaurant by accident and boy it didn’t disappoint. Wife and I loved everything from the Spicy Tandoori Wings, Rosemary Garlic Naan, to Curry Goat and Chicken Masla + Basmati Rice. Everything was nicely spiced and packed full of flavor. Our waitress was very nice and always on top on things. We’ll definitely be back and thank you!

I lived in New Delhi for 4 years and the food is better than many of my favorite restaurants there. Every dish is delicious, especially the butter chicken, which is smooth and silky and the quality of the chicken is excellent. The service is also friendly and personal in nature. This is the restaurant we always go to when we want Indian cuisine.

I wonder if this might have been an off night based on others’ glowing reviews, but we were extremely unimpressed. The butter chicken was overly sweet and tasted reminiscent of Chef Boyardee’s tomato sauce. And the Malabar chicken was clearly cooked with cardamom and bay leaves (since I picked a bunch of them out), but it was still somewhat bland and one-note rather than layers of flavor we’ve come to expect. I’ll also add that they use chicken breast rather than thigh, and the meat was unfortunately dry (though the portion size and prices were good). Chicken momos were pretty good, but again the meat was dry. We had high hopes for Tikka Masala based on the reviews, but sadly I don’t think we’ll be back.

We decided to try Tikka Masala’s lunch buffet for the first time today. The place was located along shop-laden Elm Street in Bethesda so street parking was almost impossible as expected, but there was a public parking building nearby. The restaurant was neat and nicely spaced inside. The staff was gracious enough but they mostly seemed serious folks — they could smile a bit more. The buffet had the regular Indian spread (butter chicken, samosas, mushroom chilly, yellow daal, goat curry, chicken tikka, basmati, rice pudding, and gulab jamun). It was enough to fill anyone up. (But I’ve been to other buffets that offer more dishes.) The food quality was good. The presentation was tidy. I noticed though that the butter chicken had a ton more gravy than the actual chicken chunks. And most containers weren’t full. Maybe they were being conscientious about wasting food by “exposing” more than necessary on the buffet dishes, but it did give a somewhat unappealing (incomplete) vibe to the spread. Nevertheless, the place gave a cozy atmosphere and music played at a nice level that you could actually have a good conversation using normal voice levels. I would recommend this place, and I would go back again one day.
