Tonight was my 2nd time at Nueva Cantina in Brandon, and the experience was completely different ~ in the best way. Our server, Angel, took amazing care of us, and the manager, Manuel, was also very attentive and welcoming.

We went with a variety of tacos from the taco tour, plus a burrito and a taco salad ~ everything was delicious. We also tried the classic margaritas; they were strong but not overwhelming, just right.

The noise level was moderate this time, so we were able to chat and hear each other with no issues, which made the experience even better.

We will definitely be coming back again and again!

This was the most authentic taco spot I’ve had in a long time! Nueva Cantina in Brandon, FL (right off Falkenburg Rd) truly impressed me. The food was fresh, flavorful, and tasted incredibly authentic. The staff was amazing and made sure we were fully taken care of throughout our visit. Our waiter, Daniel, was awesome — friendly, attentive, and made the experience even better. I highly recommend Nueva Cantina to anyone visiting the Tampa area or locals looking for great Mexican food. Definitely coming back!

Evanie was AMAZZZING! He made me a SPICY PEACH PINEAPPLE MARGARITA! It was DELICIOUS, and now my new favorite Margarita! Wasn’t too spicy! The perfect amount of everything! Definitely recommend this if you stop in! As well as the carne asada, and Birria tacos! This was our first time here! It’s decorated so cute for Valentine’s Day as well! We will definitely be here again next time my husband and I are here in town!

Really liked our first visit this weekend, had been waiting for this location to open! Halloween decorations were still up and looked awesome. Drinks good but some a little sweet. On the pricier side but still a great value. Our waitress Kendall was great too, we will definitely be back

Went here last night and overall we had a good time. It was super loud inside because of the amount of people in here due to the Christmas bar.

The food was good but seemed a little overpriced. Like most Mexican places it’s routine to get chips and salsa but here it was not included. $4-$5 per taco is a little much but I understand the cost of everything is going up. The nachos could have been a little bigger for the price. The Birria tacos were super greasy but it was flavorful. The flights were awesome and tasty. The mojito was delicious.

The drinks were excellent — full credit to the lady behind the bar, she was lovely and really knew her stuff. But the food… completely flavorless. The barbacoa and carnitas tasted like nothing—big disappointment.

I’ll give credit where it’s due though — the queso and chips were actually very good. Creamy, flavorful, and easily the best part of the food experience.

Also, I understand it’s Halloween season and everyone’s having fun with costumes, but there still should be some level of professionalism when serving food. Some of the staff were dressed in sleeveless tops, and honestly, that’s not appropriate when handling plates or working near customers’ meals. A costume is fine, but hygiene and presentation still matter.

The place has a fun vibe and potential, but between the bland food and lack of professionalism in appearance, it just didn’t hit the mark. Drinks were the only real win tonight.

Also, a quick note:
We were a party of two seated at the bar, and our total came to about $119. I’m even sharing the receipt for transparency. Drinks were great, but between the food and presentation, the experience fell short.

Service was great and fast. Atmosphere looked really cool but after a while it just seemed like they were trying too much. Drink presentation was good and tasted ok. Food presentation was good but the flavor just wasn’t there for our group of 4. We had tacos and the birria pizza. The steak asada was good but kind of dry, shrimp taco had plenty of shrimp and no flavor at all, Mahi mahi was cooked well but same as the shrimp no flavor, the al pastor taco was the best taco. The sauces are mild (ok),Verde (awesome) and hot sweet habenero was the best for us and paid well with the al pastor taco. Nothing was too spicy. The birria pizza was ok and the dipping broth was great. Overall it was good but the value per dollar spent just wasn’t there which attributed to the lower score.

I love the vibe and food here! The decor is fun and it’s just the type of place you want to hang out in even after you finish your meal. I started with a haunted margarita & chips and salsa. The chips and salsa were not an overthought at all and were some of the best we’ve had in awhile. My drink was amazing and the dehydrated dragonfruit garnish was not only pretty but tasty as well. I noticed they had options for pitchers of margaritas which is great for small groups. I ordered two birria tacos and my husband got the steak burrito. His plan was to save half to take to work for lunch but it was so good he ate the whole thing. Portions were fair and everything we ate tasted fresh. The only con we definitely experienced was our waiter/bartender was not attentive. It didn’t totally ruin our experience as we were taken care of by other staff. I can’t wait to go back and try more of the menu.

**Edit—On our second visit noticed something sitting at the bar. You all need tongs for the drink garnishes! We watched so many waiters/waitresses grabbing dried fruit, gummy bears etc with their bare hands. Very unsanitary**
