We had been to weddings at the Marq previously and loved the decor and layout. So when we decided to talk with Laura, we felt we knew what we were getting into. But she and the rest of the staff at the Marq went so far beyond what we were expecting that we cannot recommend any vendor more than the Marq.
When we first started meeting with Laura she was super responsive and genuinely seemed excited for our wedding. She was eager to help out in any way she could, but yet respectful and encouraging of our unique decisions that made our wedding our own. We especially appreciated that she was able to offer us some of their own decorations to use, at no extra cost. We were so sold on Laura that we really let her manage the decorating of the room. Other than the few directions we asked her to take care of, we had no idea what the room was going to look like. When we got there it looked like a fairytale. Laura and the staff took care of the majority of the setup and take down of the decorations and we were so glad they did. They did a much better job than we could have ever by ourselves.
Another unique aspect of the Marq was our ability to sit down with the chef and try out the dishes we were considering for our guests. We got time with the chef and he was willing to tweak his recipes to accommodate any changes we requested (i.e. less garlic, too salty, etc.). However, we did not need to tweak a single thing. This was probably the best wedding food we had ever had!
One of the other accommodations that sold us on the Marq was their ability to offer fireworks. We really loved the idea of offering this as our party favor and got to double this up for us with some amazing photos and videos. As excited as we were about the fireworks show our photographer, videographer, and guests were more so. We got a lot of great feedback from the firework show after the wedding and our friends and family cannot stop raving about our firework photos.
Finally, the staff at the Marq was amazing. They really made the night run super smooth and made us feel like family every single time we were there. Jake, Mr. Robert, Laura, and Mike are some of the absolute standouts. There is absolutely nothing we can complain about or would change. We really felt like our wedding day was better because of the accommodations and support the Marq gave us. If you are able to meet with Laura we highly recommend it!
Throughout the planning process, communication was inconsistent and slow. We were given empty promises, quoted incorrect prices, and faced last-minute changes regarding staff assistance with decorations. The management repeatedly failed to follow through on their commitments.
On the day of our wedding, the manager, Tyler, was nowhere to be found. When we ran out of appetizers, my brother-in-law had to track down staff to locate him. Rather than addressing the issue professionally, Tyler was dismissive and rude, refusing to offer additional food even at an extra cost.
Additionally, the willow tree area—a key part of the venue’s outdoor setting—was infested with ladybugs and wasps. My mother had to personally purchase and apply insect spray to prevent guests from being stung, though several unfortunately still were.
After the event, issues continued. We confirmed with Tyler that our contract was fully paid and that no further charges were due. However, two weeks later, we received an unexpected invoice for a staff gratuity fee—despite already having paid a $500 setup fee that was never included in our original quote.
All in all, I cannot in good faith recommend The Marq as a wedding venue. The only reason this review is not one star is because of the bartenders and waitstaff, who were kind, attentive, and truly the highlight of the evening.
Tyler, the manager, is unprofessional, untrustworthy, and not fit to represent or manage events for The Marq. The venue’s beauty cannot make up for the stress and unprofessionalism caused by its management.
Laura, the Catering Manager, was excited to help and happily answered every one of my many questions. In the months leading up to our day, she helped me to plan and make decisions about decor, food options and other details. When our rehearsal dinner and wedding day approached and we got to meet the rest of the staff and General Manager, Kevin, we were really blown away by their helpfulness – every person seemed like they genuinely love what they do.
Our ceremony was at the Arbor, one of their two ceremony spaces, and our reception followed in the banquet hall. Our guests enjoyed a beautiful ceremony surrounded by willow trees, delicious food and dessert, a full bar, a dance floor and space outside to play yard games or sit and enjoy the fire pit. It was perfect, there were no hiccups whatsoever (at least none that we were made aware of), it was exactly what we had envisioned, and it was all made possible as The Marq went above and beyond.
Just to speak a little more into how great the staff is, we stopped in for Fish Fry on Friday, and they remembered us, remembered details about our wedding and were excited that we had come back to visit.
There is so much more we could say, but will conclude with this. The Marq helped us make our wedding a perfect day, we have no doubt they would do so for you, too. We could not more highly recommend this place.
**UPDATE** Less than 24hrs after posting this review we were contacted by staff and offered a refund (in the form of a gift card) for our 2 perch orders. We haven’t been back yet so I can’t comment on the quality of the food beyond our first experience, but I did want to acknowledge the great customer service and willingness to “make it right” with their customers. I give their customer service ****.
