The burger was phenomenal. And let’s talk about those fries — the good kind. Perfectly crispy on the outside with that soft, almost buttery interior. I knew the moment I saw them they were going to be special.
That burger though… whew. Freshly made, with those slightly uneven, crisped edges that let you know it was cooked with care. The bun was soft and lightly toasted, holding everything together just right. After the first bite, I genuinely clapped in approval. A truly dang good meal.
I also really appreciated the setup. Being able to place the order ahead of time made the experience relaxed and enjoyable. We were able to sit, talk, and catch up without interruptions or feeling rushed. It’s the perfect spot to enjoy a great meal while actually being present with the person you’re dining with.
Highly recommend — Burger Poet is absolutely worth the stop, and I’ll gladly go back.

I went in on day 4 of operations for the Shelbyville location thinking that it was going to be like a 5GUYS. I later found out that it was actually a brand that started out as a food truck and besides Franklin location that Shelbyvilles was the second one in existence. So with that knowledge and former expertise from working as a supervisor for a full service sit down restaurant inside of an amusement park what I was going to grade as a 2⭐️ has bumped it up to a 4 out of 5⭐️ establishment. This place was a former B-Dubs and sat empty for a while before one day signage was put up. I was intrigued at that point and the place looked like it got started and then just stopped mid construction for the longest time. Then finally one day I saw that it looked like they started working on it again and then it finally opened. I didn’t really see or hear any advertising on opening soon and now open except for a spanner across the enclosed fencing for outside dining. I stopped by on day 4 of operations with my GMom as a spur of the moment thing and was impressed with the fancy wallpaper with a tiger motif but my excitement started dropping as I turned the corner and seen that it looked like a gutted B-Dubs with just plain generic minimalist design. We were then directed over to the ordering counter where the menu was just printed off on plain common computer paper. As I started glancing over the menu trying to figure out what I wanted greeted me with a very minute amount of items like you would expect from a bar. So I made my order and was instructed where the fountain machine was because it was disguised by a wall keeping it out of sight until you were upon it. I looked over to a closed off area thinking that it was under construction until I found out later that it was to become like a children’s area for parties. I began to wonder as I felt like I stepped into a burger joint version of a Ci-Ci’s Pizza or a Cuck E. Cheese. We went and sat at a table to wait for our food to come which allowed me to take a good look around (which felt cold and unpersonable with a DJ speaker cranking out the holiday hits). Whilst waiting I had a need to go to the restroom. My excitement started to return at that point when I discovered they had a lot of good mirrors and individualized stalls like you get at the LOVES truck stops. Upon washing my hands I discovered that only one soap dispenser was working and the water coming out of the faucet warmer than warm but never really getting hot. When I came back to my table it was much to my surprise when I saw our food was delivered in paper doggie bags like a fast food restaurant chain like BK or Mickie-D’s. I started in on my meal and traded a couple of fried pickles for a couple of fried mushrooms off of my GMom’s meal. I wound up getting the chili cheese fries, deluxe burger, fountain drink, and fried pickles. The FP were almost cold, the DB was the same but slightly warmer like it had been cooked and sat for a little bit w/o a heat lamp while waiting on the fried food to get done. Now the chili cheese fries were really nice. As we got finished I went to refill my drinks and let the cashier know that I understand how just opening you have to work out the kinks as y’all’s get yer sea legs and that the place was nice and the food was good but had room for improvement. That’s when I found out about it being more like a mom ‘n pop place over it being a major franchise. I plan to make a return visit in about 3-4’ish weeks to see how things really are since they’ll have been open for a hot minute and got the right crew jiving/meshing together

Only negative I found was that I ordered a double and recieved a single. Tried to call and no one answered and you cant leave a message. Burgers and fries were pretty good. Was a little pricey for what you get but everything is nowadays. My family and I enjoyed the food.

Loved the food and my only critique is that I wish the buns on the burger were toasted. Other than that, simple menu they do very well. Will come back.

Food was ok at best.
Portions for the price definitely not worth it.
Wait time was absolutely ridiculous. 50min for 2 burgers and some fries.
We ordered food right before a guy that was sitting with us and he didn’t get his food for another 35 min. Their system for orders and serving is trash. Won’t be back good enough for a one and done.

My first visit. I had seen the sign go up and began seeing reviews of the other location. Ordered an OG and a Deluxe. My wife and I shared them equally. We both agree that these are quality burgers and the fries are above average. We will be going back to The Burger Poet often. Besides the excellent food, the staff was helpful, personable, and attentive to my needs. I highly recommend The Burger Poet!

Ordered food to go on this crazy weather day and their first day open. I would consider these smash burgers, cooked to perfection. Ordered bacon cheese burger, bacon had great flavor also. Fries are very tasty! Ordered over website and was ready when walked in. Sorry didn’t add any photos, maybe next time. Thank you for adding a location here in Shelbyville, we needed a good burger here.

It is good to have a fast casual place with good value in shelbyville again. The fries remind me of the old pudder fries that were crispy, and had good substance to them. I ordered chili cheese fries and the OG burger. The house sauce tastes kinda of like a sweet mayonnaise, it pairs well with the salty smashed burger that has good crisp to it. The pickles are the thinner kind that have some snap still not overly vinegary. The grilled onions were cooked exactly how I like them super soft and no remaining raw onion taste. The cheese sauce for the fries is standard nacho cheese sauce. The chili is a coney sauce which I enjoy for fries sense makes to every fry in the container. The atmosphere is the only thong needs work. They opened up about 3 weeks ago and they are still working on it. Music started about 3/4 into our meal which helped a lot. You can tell still working on claiming the space. Overall a good value eatery. The double cheeseburger combo is about 12.70 before tax.
