Being from NY, it had been hard for me to find an authentic carribean spot for me to get some of my favorites. I came across “Calypso Mama Caribbean Cafe” on Tiktok and decided to give it a try. The food was FABULOUS!!! I was able to meet the 70 year old woman behind the flavors that I had tasted. I got there maybe 6:45pm, which is close to closing, and after having a warm conversation with the grandson, was saddened to hear that they had sold out of roti for the night. The grandmother had came out and after talking with her, the problem was quickly fixed! Moments later a fresh curry goat roti was presented to me. For $25, I got a curry goat roti the size of my head! Roti: soft, flacky, warm. Curry Goat: TENDER, juicy, flavorful. Overall my experience there was beyond wonderful!

First time visiting this restaurant. I got take out, ordered oxtails, rice and peas and curry potatoes. My goodness was the food excellent! I’ve been living in NC Gso area for decades and this was my first time there. Boy was I missing out!!! I generally always never eat all my rice and peas when I ordered from other places but man was it fire. The curry potatoes had a kick, which I truly enjoyed. I’ll be going back for more for sure. The chef/s that are cooking in that kitchen, God bless you! The incense burning in the front was a bit of a surprise but I burn them in my home also. Can’t wait to try the other items on the menu…

The best curry goat roti in the triad! The service was phenomenal. The atmosphere and culture is beautifully intertwined with the food. Since I moved here from New York it has been hard finding the perfect roti and this by far takes me back home. The goat was so perfect and tender. I can’t wait to get some more! True Culture and authenticity.

Listen, when you date a man from the Caribbean, you become spoiled with excellent, freshly cooked, and well-seasoned food. I was in the mood for some island flavors the other night and stumbled across Calypso Mama Caribbean Cafe on Yelp. I am so thankful that I did because the restaurant is legitimate! From the moment I walked into the doors of this quaint restaurant, I felt the warmth and island vibes of the Caribbean. The spices and aromas from the kitchen led me straight to the counter to order a scrumptious meal of curry chicken, rice and peas, and cabbage. Everything was well seasoned and tasted so, so good. This delightful, locally owned restaurant is owned and operated by four generations of a family originally from Guyana. It has been in business for over thirteen years and is undergoing expansion and transition. Soon, Calypso Mama Caribbean Cafe will change its name to “Nana & Papa Caribbean Cuisine & Spiritual Cafe.” In addition to food, the cafe offers an eclectic mix of merchandise for purchase in the Spiritual Cafe section of the restaurant. There is plenty of accessible seating for dine-in options, or you can order ahead or take out. While parking is limited due to the size and location of the lot, there is accessible parking directly in front of the building and more parking around the side of the business. The food portions are large, the prices are reasonable, and the service is exceptional! The menu may change, but as of February 2025, they have an excellent selection of options for anyone wanting authentic Caribbean food. When you go by, make sure to tell them that Kindra Speech sent ya!

Good vibes, great food and friendly staff!
As soon as you open your car door, you know.. it’s going to be good! The smell of delicious food awaits inside!
Walking into Calypso Mama, you are welcomed by a very clean dining room with kid friendly music playing. The colors are vibrant and really appealing and coordinated. The stereo keeps the mood alive as well.
After ordering, you can help yourself to the drink cooler and wait for the meal to come out. There is a selection of fruity drinks not often seen in normal venues of America. These are the good stuff of drinks.
The food is cooked fresh and made to order. When it comes out, it’s surprisingly large portion and oh-so delicious!!
To judge the made to order freshness, you’ll either need to take my word for it or better, try it yourself.
I’ll be back to try the rest of the menu, soon!

Affordable prices and service is good. I ordered oxtail and shrimp curry and it took 40 mins to come out though she said 15, so that was a bit of a drag. The food was tasty but I wish they had more sides. It was either rice & peas or white rice… cabbage or curried potatoes….

The portions are to small for the money. They put the curry goat on top of my rice and beans in attempt to hide the horrible appearance. The rice was watery with a bland taste. They do not know how to make curry sauce. You actually have to incorporate heavy wipping cream, not just the powder. I will never go back. I felt like I was ripped off. What a disappointment.

Hubby went to pick up our first order. Been craving a little carribean food. Missed the curries and roti from back home. This is the first time eating from Calypso. The food was good but a bit spicy. The rice and beans that came with my oxtail plate had our mouth literally burning as well as our tongues. The cabbage was spicy too but tolerable. The chicken curry roti was good with a hint of heat. The hubby can’t do much spice due to his gallbladder removal. We had to drink milk to cool our mouths lol. I’m part Guyanese and it was a bit for me too. So next time easy on the spice please.
