Social Profile:

Established in 2021, Tonkatsu Marushichi offers a modern take on katsudon. Founded in Monzennakacho, Tokyo, we are known for our extra-thick, tender tonkatsu cooked using a unique low-temperature method. Instead of simmering the cutlet in egg, we place it over fluffy tamagoyaki, preserving its crisp texture and juicy flavor. We’ve recently started dinner service, and evenings are usually calm—perfect for enjoying freshly fried tonkatsu. Mon–Sun: 11am–3pm | Thu–Sat: 5pm–8pm 21605 S Western Ave Unit C, Torrance, CA 90501

The closest thing in LA that you’ll find to the katsu sandos in Japan.

Of course, Marusichi is actually from Japan so that helps a ton. I was fortunate enough to visit the Tokyo location on my recent trip and the tonkatsu was absolutely mind blowing! I had the katsu bowl so not the sandwich but it was still one of the best meals I’ve ever had in Japan.

Fast forward to yesterday and I placed an order online because I thought it was just online/take-out per the website and/or instagram. Turns out you can order in person. The downside too I experienced was that the order page said it would take 20 minutes and less than one minute after ordering I received a message saying my order was ready. I’m not sure if it actually was and my sando was still hot when I arrived but I would hope this doesn’t cause issues in the future!

Once I opened up the beautiful Japanese packaging, I knew it would be good! This pork is slightly drier than what I had in Japan (maybe because it sat for a while before I opened it?) But it was still some of the softest and most tender pork I’ve ever had, even with how thick it was!

The exterior batter was still crispy, the bread was light and pillowy, and the sweet sauce paired with the slight kick of the mustard was perfection.

Marusichi needs to expand around LA more because I want to visit as often as I can!

Okay, without a doubt, this is the best tonkatsu (fried pork cutlet) you will ever eat – even compared to the best restaurants in Japan. Seriously.

The cutlet is soft and juicy, with an amazing taste. The tonkatsu sauce was simply sublime.

Even the bread they use for the sandwiches was fluffy and very delicious.

Honestly, all their food items were more than delicious. Try their curry as well, as you will taste none better.

I don’t exaggerate when I say they should be a Michelin starred restaurant.

I would even make it a point to drive here from anywhere just to eat their tonkatsu.

Yes, it’s that good!

While they are mainly a take-out style restaurant, it’s worth taking the time to eat at their counter while your food is hot.

Already, I want to go back!

Quite delicious! We got the Deluxe and the Tenderloin and after trying both I think the Tenderloin takes my vote. Especially since they are both the same price – the Tenderloin is definitely tender! Rice, egg, and sauces were all quite tasty. I would recommend getting the wasabi side, a nice way to cut through the richness

Finally stopped by here for to-go when I visited Torrance.
I ordered premium katsu and was very impressed by the quality. It is a thick katsu that was perfectly cooked and moist inside. Even though I ate it after the food got cold a bit, food was still very delicious. So far, this is the best Japanese katsu place I can think of in SoCal.
The restaurant itself is small and has limited number of seatings. Next time, I want to try eating there so I can eat freshly cooked katsu right away.
I honestly think this is a great quality lunch place if you are craving for katsu!

Came on 7/8 which was day 2 of the grand opening. Only the yaki katsudon deluxe and the katsu sando are currently available. The katsu sando had the thick patty as advertised and a pretty strong mustard flavor to give it some dimension. Could have been a bit more tender/pink though. Katsudon is a solid portion of food with a thinner katsu and a fluffy egg omelette. Good flavor, didn’t need any extra sauce, breading could have been a bit crispier. Overall really good, hopefully the full menu will be available soon!

Since it was the second week opening, there was a line out the door to order. And then it took 40+ minutes to get our order. All the meals are made to order so that was cool, but they do seem short staffed in the back.

If you’re expecting crispy/flakey tonkatsu, this isn’t quite the place. The to-go nature makes the port cutlet a little soggy by the time we ate it. It tastes really soft and tender, but not the tonkatsu we’re used to.

The presentation is exquisite though. The box is very unique and wrapped very nicely.

The food was pretty good. The breading and katsu for the pork ribeye was very good. My issue is that since it comes in a closed box, similar to other experiences here for takeout. The katsu becomes soggy and soft and the steam just softens it. I ate it in standing tables they they had, so I had it fresh. The pork ribeye was super tasty and fatty. The meat was very tender and very great quality. The rice had a bit too much sauce in it but the egg was nice and fluffy!

You order thru a touch pad and the food is made to order which guarantees freshness. The staff was super nice and very polite! The decor was very minimalist and there was lemon water available if you’re waiting or choosing to eat there standing.

Worth every penny I spent here. The aesthetic and the environment here is simple and very cute. And the taste is just as well, but blasting with flavor. The meat is not dry at all and super juicy. It looks exactly like the picture does.

Overall presentation is extremely extremely well done and makes you feel like you’re in Japan!

I would come back here everyday if I could. The pork is fresh and taste ultra premium .

The staff is super friendly.
Must visit if you are in Torrance

Marushichi tonkatsu prides itself in japan for having the thickest cuts of tonkatsu. If you look at the pictures online then you’ll understand right away. Well they finally opened a location in Torrance! This is their grand opening week! Their Yaki tonkatsu deluxe is probably their most popular option. It has a big piece of tonkatsu in it laying on top of a bed if egg and rice. Originally priced at 22 dollars but it is discounted for thie grand opening. It was really good and I highly recommend it! Juicy and fatty on the inside and crispy on the outside!
