Had a beautiful meal at Kyue Japanese Restaurant. This was our second visit, and we learned our lesson this time by booking a table.
For entree, we had the agedashi tofu, which was beautifully done — light and crispy on the outside, silky soft inside, soaking up that savoury dashi broth perfectly. Simple, comforting, and executed really well.

The black pork katsu was incredibly juicy and succulent, while the gyu katsu was equally delicious. Grinding your own sesame seeds and mixing them with the tonkatsu sauce truly elevates the experience — the aroma of toasted sesame and that fresh, nutty flavour make such a difference.

We also enjoyed the sashimi and assorted sashimi poke bowl. Everything was very fresh, though I would have loved a slightly more generous fish-to-salad ratio. Still very enjoyable.

A special mention to their onion dressing, whether homemade or not — absolutely addictive on the thinly sliced cabbage. You can even ask for extra cabbage, which I happily did. Sorry Kyue… I may have almost finished the whole bottle of onion dressing

Thank you for a wonderful meal. See you next time.

Absolutely delicious treat today at Kyue Japanese Restaurant Kyuejapanese.
Everything was so fresh, beautifully presented, and bursting with flavour. The Chicken Katsu Deluxe was the standout for me , perfectly crispy, tender, and absolutely irresistible. Wide range of drinks as well.
The team’s hospitality made the experience even better. Such a welcoming, friendly atmosphere. Well worth checking out, and we’ll definitely be back again. Thank you for the lovely service and a truly memorable meal!

We had a delicious lunch. Food is well presented, full of flavours, fresh & tasty.
We ordered Tonkatsu Katsu Deluxe set, Wagyu Curry Udon, Salmon Avo Salad & Teriyaki Poke Bowl.
The Tonkatsu is love at first crunch, crispy, golden brown, juicy & tender. Delicious with the crushed roasted sesame with Tonkatsu sauce. The salad & poke bowl is refreshing & Wagyu Curry Udon is delicious.
Love the different sauces for each dish. Staff is friendly.

Wow! What a lucky find on a random Sunday night, didn’t expect the quality of the food from Kyue! Will definitely be back again to try their Katsu because after a big weekend eating and drinking too well…

To start we had a standard sashimi platter, each sashimi piece was fresh and got a decent variety.

We ordered the Kaisendon, which included sashimi salmon, king fish, nori, scallops and an egg. This was absolutely standout and would eat it regularly!

The other dish was the whole eel unaju and it didn’t disappoint, was flavourful and just a perfect dish.

Standout Japanese restaurant in the middle of an apartment block, on a Sunday it was relatively easy to find parking and didn’t have to make a booking. Once again, definitely will be back to try their Katsu as we saw others order it and it looked amazing!

I had a very unpleasant experience here.

The restaurant used previously used oyster shells to serve food. Inside one of the shells there were leftover shrimp eggs from a previous customer, which was extremely unhygienic.

Even worse, one of the oyster shells used to decorate the fried shrimp plate had a worm inside it. This was very disturbing and completely unacceptable for a restaurant.

When we reported this issue to the staff, no apology was given, which made the experience even more disappointing.

Food hygiene and customer service should be taken seriously. I hope the restaurant improves their sanitation practices.

Authentic Japanese cuisine and a Gem in the neighbourhood of Willoughby. We had the Zucchini Tempura Ocean boat, Ebi Tendon and the Gyukatsu. The tempura is absolutely amazing, very crispy and fresh. It is the highlight for me and definitely will come back for more and try other dishes on the menu.

We had lunch at this popular Japanese restaurant and ordered their specialty wagyu-katsu set with rice + traditional pickles + cabbage salad, and kaisen-don set with traditional pickles. The Japanese lunch-set usually includes miso soup, but you got to pay extra if you want the soup. The gyu-katsu was marble and nice, but the panko crumbs were bit too thin and hence, less crunchy than what I expect / wish. The fish cuts on the kaisen-don were good, but for the price I expect at least a slice of tuna (maguro) and maybe less salmon slices. The yuzu highball was quite refreshing, but a bit pricey.

The place has small space, but tidy decorated seating. The ambience is good, but the place may be hard to locate for first time visitors since the signage is small and hard to see from street level.

The menu is quite interesting, but somehow they don’t combine their signature pork or beef katsu with Japanese curry, though you can have with less traditional options like chicken or prawn katsu . Prices on the menu are premium, reflecting the Sydney North Shore premium location. Customer services are good as usual in Japanese restaurants. You can pay with all type of credit cards plus a surcharge of 1.5%.

Very delicious Japanese food, cooked to perfection.

We ordered the Wagyu gyukatsu, tonkatsu set tempura don and Agedashi Tofu. All of these were deep fried very well with good quality oil, as we sometimes feel unwell after eating deep fried foods at other restaurants but not at Kyue.

The tempura is uniquely seasoned unlike other restaurants so it tastes very good on its own, even without dipping sauce.

A lot of comments complain about the price. However at $40 per person, this would be the price for a good quality Japanese Dinner, plus the portion sizes were large too. We could barely finish our meal and other tables did not finish theirs.

The only complaint is that their kitchen cannot keep up with the orders, as we ordered at 7:35pm and the food came at 8:18pm, more than half an hour later. There were many tables waiting for their food.

Overall, I would definitely return again but arriving at an earlier time.
