A neighborhood veteran serving classic French bistro fare in a rustic, small space.

We had an absolutely wonderful meal at La Boite en Bois a few days ago before seeing the Magic Flute at Met Opera. The staff is all-around superb, making us feel very welcome. The food was great. We had ceasar salad, which has great romano cheese, moules frites (mussels with fries), and rabbit, the evening’s special. The latter may be an acquired taste to some, but I loved it and would recommend. The setting is very charming, ideal for a night on the town. Reservation is just about a must as it is rather small. We will definitely go back again!

food was a little disappointing. the pate was pretty bland and the crab cakes were unremarkable. the duck was the biggest letdown — tasted dry and flavorless, but the gravy helped a bit. salads were a highlight. but at this price point, not worth it. the environment and staff were absolutely amazing and attentive.

Decent food – everything is fresh. The French Onion Soup and Crab Cakes were great. Seafood crepes was so so. Salmon was a little dry. Cool atmosphere inside with 80s music which was odd but I’m a fan.
Service is a 3 star as they throw the credit card machine in your face – stand over you while showing only 18% and up tip options. Cannot stand that.

Service was great. Prompt, polite and timely
The interior fits its name “wooden box”. The place is a small southern French feel. Tables are a bit too close to each other. Not so flexible. We were fine at our little table, but another elderly couple came in and asked if they could have a larger table for 4. (As a way of background, it was 5pm and it was only my wife, myselfI and these two elderly ladies. They denied their request despite a dozen empty tables. A bit narrow viewed was my take.
Not our first time here. While we like the food and the service, it’s a bit pricey. My wife and I had two bottles of sparkling water, one appetizer each and one entree each-came to $228.00 – portions are good, and food is tasty— but they need to work on their table spacing and price.
With all this said, we will go back, but not as often as we return to other places.

Excellent French dishes!! What a wonderful place to have a meal! Around the corner from the 1 train or the C and B trains. The delicious dishes were prepared wonderfully. Service was attentive. Great place to take for a date or just catch up with friends. You can take reservations inside but outdoors is first come first serve! I recommend this place if you are in the Lincoln center area.

This restaurant has been here for a long time. That speaks for itself. Authenitc French Cuisine. Its a very nice, romantic and lovely spot. Everything is just awesome. My Dad was the one who brought me here 15 years ago. Still a go to.

This is the most disgusting food I have ever eaten and a very unhappy server (and sad chef, it was lunchtime, no customers but the chef seemed exhausted/not enthusiastic) if I have ever met one.
There are tons of restaurants around, try anything but this place. I was holding on to the memory of old days when it used to be the one of the best french spots, atlas…the time has passed. I am nauseated, should have tried the pizza or the Italians at the corner

How did I fail to see this place until now? Their execution sets them apart completely. Your taste buds will demand return trips. The team members show warmth while staying focused on service. I located this nice restaurant through online reviews.

We made a reservation 4 days ago on open table, received a confirmation email from OpenTable, as well as reminders, of the reservation, including several on the day of the reservation only to be told when we arrived that the restaurant didn’t have any record of it. Even though we showed the email confirming our reservation, the restaurant said all they could do was to serve us quickly and we would have to leave in an hour. This was to have been my husband’s birthday dinner. We will not be returning.

After a visit to the Apple Store on the Upper West Side, we sauntered over and ate outdoors here. Nice setup and terrific food. We had the chicken scallopini and crab cake salad. Loved them both. The staff was very careful and wore masks throughout. Highly recommend and we will be back!
