Update Dec 20, 2025: I’m still totally uncomfortable here.

Previous:
Great food. Bartender Madeleine is great. Too crowded and too loud for me. Older crowd typically. We finally made it in time on a Thursday to get lasagna. I prefer the pizza, but lasagna was good.

The Prime Rib was great. Party of 6 @ 6 had a great time. All of us thought the prices were very reasonable. The drinks were “nice” as well. The owner came out and made sure everything was to our satisfaction. Thanks Jim

Hartford Alumni represent! Great little bar! It has 1800’s charm. It is an old building and a very cool spot to explore. I highly recommend visiting this gem. Food was 5 stars because they have delicious and unique snacks!

Fantastic little hobbit hole bar! Great people, great food, good pours! Got to meet the owners Jim and Tina and daughter Madeleine (Maddy?) and they are super good people. Got a peek at the new dining room which is an excellent addition. The Italian Meatball soup is amazing as were the Philly Steak Rolls. Jim and Tina make everything from scratch which is a bonus. Burgers are insanely massive!! Can’t wait to try Taco Tuesday and Friday Fish Fry. Hopefully I can become one of the regulars!

The owner refused to accept my brother-in-law’s Montana driver’s license. We thought maybe she was joking at first but she wasn’t. While it’s not a Real ID due to its age (nearly nine years old), it is valid and does not expire until 2026. He just used it to fly and pass airport security. However, the owner claimed the ID appeared yellow under a light. While we understood her concerns and didn’t want her to do anything against her conscious, we explained that the license was legitimate and that something must be amiss.

To resolve the issue, my brother-in-law offered his passport ID as an alternative, but she refused to accept that as well. We are both in our mid-thirties, clearly not teenagers attempting to deceive her (maybe she thought we were undercover cops, I don’t know). She then boasted of her recent training and licensing. The class instructed her to confiscate IDs that are not Federal Real IDs if they show yellow, as they’re deemed fake. While we appreciated her decision not to confiscate the ID, doing so would’ve forced us to involve law enforcement to address such an injustice.

Take caution when visiting this establishment. We were not warmly welcomed nor given a fair shake.

Edit: In response to the owner’s reply-

That may be fine as a general rule, but it obviously has its limitations. You’re free to double down that it’s a hard fact, but it might have been wiser to consider the totality of evidence and work with us using more official means of verification. You could have used Montana’s License Lookup service online, a UV light to reveal state seals on the card, used a driver license scanner, or simply accepted his Passport ID (conveniently not mentioned in your reply, with no reasoning given for its refusal, btw), just to name a few.

It’s alright—you lost customers due to your refusal of his licenses. We were happily accepted elsewhere this evening without hassle.

If you’re reading this, your experience may be different. If you’re a regular, please keep enjoying. If it’s your first time, perhaps consider a more accommodating establishment.

In a few years, when all states and drivers have switched to Real IDs, this issue will resolve itself. For us, we won’t be returning, nor will our family or friends.

Nice, older place. Cool outdoor seating. Prices are good. A little small inside but not a big deal. Bloody Mary we got didn’t look like the one in the review pictures.

Fun little bar to hangout in. This is an addition to my last review. We had the burgers last night and they were super! The fried pickles were good too.
