Reviews
Overall, a fantastic place that I would highly recommend, just plan ahead and expect a wait!
,Jambonneau Moutarde à l’Ancienne (Pork knuckle) and Scampis Taboulé: (linguistines). Very efficient service and the food was all fresh. Great atmosphere too, we were lucky we arrived before the big queues outside formed (as reservations are not possible) Was a great end to our first day in Brussels
Local food
Doesn’t work with reservations, you have to do the line but it’s very quickly.
We tried 3 dishes but for us the best one was the sausages with potato, amazing, the home salad with burrata actually was really good as well.
Forget white tablecloths and hushed whispers. This is a high-ceilinged, Art Nouveau-accented space filled with long communal tables, chalkboard menus, and a constant hum of conversation. It’s the kind of place where you might start the night sharing a bench with strangers and end it sharing a recommendation for the best local Gueuze.
The kitchen focuses on Belgian soul food. If you’re looking for delicate plating, keep walking—but if you want honest, deep flavors, you’re home.
The Carbonnade: Their Belgian beef stew is a masterclass in slow-cooking, rich with the depth of dark beer.
Stoemp: A mountain of mashed potatoes and seasonal vegetables that defines comfort.
The Beer List: Exceptional. They lean heavily into traditional lambics and trappists that pair perfectly with the heavy fare.
Good to Know
No Reservations: It’s strictly first-come, first-served. If there’s a line (and there usually is), grab a beer at the bar and enjoy the people-watching.
Cash is King: Keep in mind they often prefer cash or local cards; it’s a bit old-school, fitting the “end of the century” name.
Bottom Line: It’s loud, it’s crowded, and it’s arguably the most authentic dining experience in the city center. Go for the carbonnade, stay for the atmosphere.
* stew had literally 4 pieces of meat, this was not enough, by a long shot
* they only had purée or a baked potato, no fries (which is typical for a beef stew) and/or croquettes. The puree was nice, the baked potatoes were dry. We ended up putting the butter for the bread on it.
The ham was huge, way better value.
The ribs were a large portion too, and super tasty!
Staff was friendly, some even spoke Dutch.
We waited on the terrace for about 15-20m.
The food was very nice. Not a large selection, which I think is better for a restaurant because they can focus on what they know it is well done. The jambonneau was delicious, so the lamb with mass potato and the kids dish pasta pesto. The homemade lemonade was superb. And the desserts were a delightful treat: the chocolate mousse, the sesame mousse and the dame blanche. Even the coffee was good. The service also top. Friendly staff and fast service. They could speak several languages, including English. The venue quite charming, still a bit too dark for my taste. They do not take any reservations, so you better go when they open at 12pm. Otherwise, in one hour the queue was long. The parking is difficult and you can park in a paid parking. It is easy access by public transport since it is in a turistic área, which is well connected.
The food was excellent: rich, traditional, and full of flavour. The dishes were generous, well executed, and beautifully succulent, showcasing Belgian classics done with confidence and care.
Ingredients felt honest and well sourced, cooking was spot on, and every plate delivered comfort and character.
A great place to enjoy true local food in a relaxed and welcoming environment. Highly recommended for anyone looking for genuine Belgian cuisine and a vibrant dining experience in Brussels.
