The China Restaurant in Albert Lea has been one of my longtime favorites, and this photo from a visit with my friend Jessica says it all! We were starving and the food absolutely delivered. Their menu is huge, the portions are generous, and everything was fresh, flavorful, and served piping hot.
The coconut shrimp was my personal favorite (perfectly crispy and sweet), and the egg drop soup is honestly some of the best I’ve had anywhere. We ordered a big variety that day and every dish hit the spot.
The dining area is clean, cozy, and uniquely decorated, and the staff is always kind, friendly, and quick to take care of you. Great food, great prices, and a really enjoyable atmosphere. This place never disappoints!
Best Chinese food I’ve ever had.
The server was really nice and seemed to take great care in whatever he was doing.
The menu could use some work. it was a little outdated & marked with price changes that were noted with stickers.
Overall, a great place to eat!!
I ordered Szechuan chicken and my wife got sweet and sour. My meal was 90% cabbage and had zero flavor. You may think “he’s exaggerating, it has to have some flavor.” But I assure you, there was no flavor. My wife also had very little flavor in her sweet and sour chicken. Her sauce was very watered down.
Each meal was about 6 or 7 dollars more than what I’m used to paying anywhere else. My brother also got food there and he reported bland and flavorless meals as well.
After trudging through my meal that I couldn’t even finish, I decided to try a fortune cookie. I suspect that the cookies were made around the time I was born, 1986. I immediately spit out the stale monstrosity. I tried to break a piece off but found that the cookie didn’t break, It bent and pulled apart with a malleability that shouldn’t exist in a fortune cookie.
The lady at the front desk was nice and friendly and the only redeemable aspect of our visit there.
When paying for food we were informed that we would be punished for using a card in the form a 4% fee! I know that most card readers charge around 2.9% so I find it insulting to make money off of my use of a card.
I suspect that the owner is simply a penny pinching old miser who can’t bother with buying fresh fortune cookies or using things such as salt. I have never been to a worse restaurant in all my life.
The manager is courteous, friendly and very kind. The teriyaki chicken and orange chicken were exceptional. Highly recommend.
